I highly doubt this will work out for me, but I'm curious to see if anyone on the escapist has had success on the whole interweb dating thing.

I signed up for one once, as a social experiment (I'm a Sociology major, so natch, I get to make claims like this). I took a long-ass quiz to determine who I'm "matched" with. Immediate results: 0 matches.

The next day, and every day since then, I've been getting notices of "x person is matched with you!"

Take it with a grain of salt.

I have a relative who found a partner this way. And I heard last week that 1 in 8 couples in North America that married last year met through dating sites. I don't think it'd work for me at all (well, I have a gf but IF I had used it before-hand I doubt it would've worked), but good luck to you.

yourhotmom.com seems to work for me... nothing easier than single moms who acknowledge their sexdrive, and don't feel perverted just cause im young :p

I set up a profile on one. I figured why not, at the very least it can help me meet people, and its not like it would be harming my chances.

"Hell no! Worthless piece of shit.", though I should've voted "I like tacos.".

The reason I think they can't work is because there's two kinds of love; simple, 'platonic' love, which is more like attracting between two people, and specific love, where you really fully give yourself for another. Simple platonic love is easy to achieve, and dating sites do a pretty good job at it. Relations based on this always crumble eventually though, and they are never as intense as 'specific love'. So I guess technically you could say they work, but not in what I call the 'proper' sense of the word 'love'.

Or that's my theory on it anyway.

they CAN work and they CAN'T work

however the issue is that most people on those sites are less than honest, not that they are outright lying but they are not representing themselves properly. things such as the photos and ways they describe themselves and such.

this isn't to say this doesn't happen anywhere else because it does. it's just the way some people are

i've met some people on there and never really went anywhere. tho i know a few people that have met people and found a good match with online dating sites. so i'll say they can be good and they can't be, it's much like meeting anyone anywhere

Since most of them require you to pay money to do more then view your potential matches, I say they're a waste.

Some dating sites are free. I recommend Oasis Active personally.

There's no "they helped get me laid a couple times, but I'm still single" option in the poll, so I didn't vote.

I will be honest and say that I have a joined a couple of dating sites. I thought it might be a good way to find someone after my ex left me. I have met a couple of guys on there. None have worked out though. I am talking to one guy who I am interested in... who knows what will happen.

Anyway... if you are wanting to join a dating site, go for it. It is fun to talk to new people.

WHY do people keep calling it the Interweb? Its the INTERNET you idiots! (no offense) Why do you think Interweb has a red line under it and internet doesn't?

Oh and I like Tacos, like most everyone else on this thread.
