Trying to fit in an army like the Tau would be hard, because they don't have any low tech units that can deal with suppression (unless you let the kroot jump half a football field). Necrons would be nice because their sloth movement speed could be balanced by having them teleport back to their base whenever you hit the fall back button. Plus having a moblie base in DoW 2 would rock

I hope they put the Tau in. In the original DoW i sucked with all races, Eldar the least, but i still sucked. I lost nearly all my multiplayer matches.

Then Winter Assualt came out, i was like 'Ok let's try the IG'. sucked with them aswel.

But then, Dark Crusade came out and introduced the Tau, and OMG i WTFPWN almost everyone now. Tau is the only race i can play with effeciently, i mean, the range and the firepower they have is just ridiculously amazing. I swear, if the Tau are in the game in the near future, u'll see my WindowsLive Account name more often in Gamereplays.org.

But if u ask me in what order the Races will be, i think it'll be something like this:
1st expansion: Chaos and IG.
2nd Expansion: Tau and Necrons.
MAYBE a 3rd Expansion (if they don't rush it like soulstorm): SoB and Dark Eldar. (but that's a huge maybe!)

I can't see them NOT brining in Chaos... a Warhammer game without Chaos is like a sandwich without bacon... Serviceable... but not good...

im quite thankful that they only released a small amount of armies to start off with, if they started with all the armies...

1) they wudnt really make that much money out of it
2) it just wudnt b as fun with all the armies in becasue they would proli have to do daily patches just to fix things
3) it wud take FRIGGING' ages for the game to come out to put ALL the armies in and make campaigns for ALL of them and not just one
4) it means that next expansion they can release one or two armies with new campaigns
5) it also means that people get excited about future games and the developers can read forums like this and see what players themselves want
6) not all the armies would be suited to the playing style of DOW 2, remembering it is an RTS/RPG
Or rather an RTT (Real Time Tactical) I Believe that is the correct terminology, well its I say anyway.

I think they can make Chaos without making them too similar to Space Marines this time around.

That said, my vote goes for Necrons.

First of all, I need to adress a particular annoyance with the OP:

To the dismay of players, the 4 race offering in DOW2 seemed somewhat lacking from the 9 race extravaganza of Soulstorm, and it left some of us with Dawn of War blue balls.
The "9 race extravaganza of Soulstorm" was there because Soulstorm was the third expansion pack for Dawn of War. It is just silly to expect a brand new game to have the same or greater number of races without allowing for the same development time that DOW+WA+DC+SS had together, and that would mean that DoW2 would stay in development for another year or two. And that's before we get to the balancing issues of shipping with 9+ distinct races out of the box, and not to mention shooting yourself in the foot as far as expansions go. Also, four races is what the original DoW shipped with...

That being said, IIRC the devs have hinted that the first expansion race will be Chaos. Personally, I'd like to see Tau because I think they'd be well suited to the game's mechanics (supression, cover, etc.). Also, IG will likely be the 2nd race added after Chaos.

The Forces of Naugtiness are most likely to be up next.

Hopefully they can integrate the CoH doctrine system to allow you to choose your patron

While most people probably want to have Chaos as the new kids on the proverbial block it is more than likely that they will follow the motions they went through with DoW 1 (ie: the first new race will probably be Imperial Guard).

That and the IG would probably be very easy to balance in the game since...they're a bunch of ordinary blokes with guns and padded jackets...they're hardly overpowered.

Imperial Guard, though it wouldn't seem fitting with the game's style. The Imperial Guard are the epitome of cannon fodder - each soldier and in fact entire armies are utterly expendable and easily replaced.

I was always hoping for an expansion to DoW1 that would let me get Thousand Sons instead of Bezerkers (Tzeentch FTW!) so I'm all for Chaos since they might ACTUALLY do that now. That being said, I also want the IG just for the hilarity of watching massive squads charge an MG and just getting mowed down...until the armour support arrives and screws everybody over.

IG is a must have, however I want their squad sizes to be like 20-30 units that way it will feel more realistic when they pose a semi challenge to 3 space marines.

As for Chaos. I only want them if they do them right with the 4 god tech tree.
Think so too, IG is an obvious choice anyway since (as someone else already correctly pointed out) they've already made an appearance as allied forces. Also, if you design and write them properly, they can make for some kickass story and atmosphere - the beloved immersion all of us nerds yearn for in story-heavy universes like W40k.

And by the gods, give us Chaos! I agree with you, if they are included in the next expansion pack, something I'd bet my appendix on, they have to give us the choice of choosing either Chaos Undivided or a specific patron god this time. How hard can it be? The FoK-mod did it right for DoW1, so it should be doable. Once you include Rubric Marines, Plague Marines etc. and some legion-specific demons, Chaos will definitely not feel like a carbon copy of the Space Marines anymore.
Also, the Thousand Sons specifically should make an appearance, because they're made of awesome and because it has been hinted to on several occasions that they have ties to the Blood Ravens chapter.

On a related note, I hope they bring back the Librarian and psyker powers in the first expansion. Introducing a new SM chapter that's centered heavily around the use of psykers and the acquisition of lost knowledge and then not sticking with the theme smacks of inconstistency somewhat.

Oh also. If they include Chaos, Stop fucking screwing over Alpha Legion! I only realised when I was on wh40k lexicanum the other day that the chaos forces in all the games were Alpha Legion. They are known for stealth and subtlety. Also their war cry has always been "For the Emperor" and they worship chaos undivided. What do we get in game? The leaders are always mindless kill crazy fucking Khorne followers. No planning, no original thoughts, just kill kill kill.
Also I thought that before DoW got released and fucked their canon up that Alpha never used daemon units however I may be mistaken on that point.
Winter Assault's Chaos troops WERE World Eaters, so that's fine, and Dark Crusade's legion was the Word Bearers.
But yes, Relic do deserve some stick for their depiction of the Alpha Legion in the original game and, even worse, Soulstorm, which was a mess altogether.

I've read pretty much all of the canon on Chaos, and you're right, they never used daemons... aside from the champions trying to ascend to daemonhood, but they all do that at some point I guess.
I take it you've read Dan Abnett's 'Legion' as well? If they had stayed true to the concept of the Alphas in DoW1, they'd at least have tried to convey the point that this Legion still fights for the Emperor in spirit... Alpharius/Omegon (whichever one was killed) would spin in his grave at the sight of morons like Bale or Carron.

They Realy should have Necrons, theyre freaking awesome and they could make up the story with One of the great tomb complexes on Mars itself opened by The nightbringer causing utter chaos att the world of men, and then we can have the Ig Jumping in to the fight since it would be at their biggest concern, i mean Mars overrun by necrons the base for the spacemarines, at the very middle of the imperium the Ig would have to act!! Btw its true that there exist tomb complexes on mars, I know my Necrons history xD!
