Poll: DC's Catwoman Comes Out as Bisexual

Selina Kyle, AKA Catwoman, is now acknowledged as being canonically bisexual by her corporate masters over at DC Comics.

So does this alter your perception of the character or is it ultimately much ado about nothing?

Ultimate irony is considering how deep she goes against "thou shalt not steal" that she wouldn't already be on the Christian hit list.

My thoughts: eh. I rarely read catwoman, and it's really hard not to see this as an attempt to boost slipping sales, either for the pro-diversity crowd, or for every nerdy fanboy wanting official girl / girl action with a character often ranked sexiest in comics.

Considering she's been teased as such for about 30 years now, I'm really not surprised. The Dark Knight Rises heavily hinted that she was and before that, Batman:Year One had her as an outright Lesbian(unless she hooked up with Batman at some point during that story and I've forgotten).

I know that sexual orientations apart from heterosexuality have to get any scraps available, but I can't help seeing this through the lens of all the fantasy porn rather than something actually empowering or meaningful. Welcome to comics, where everything is pandering to someone, and any change is a publicity stunt.

OT: hasn't this been basically how the writers have been treating her for years now? The under (over?)tones of it in Year One and the Dark Knight Rises where not there because the writers of those respective works suddenly wanted to make them so, they where working off of something.

My first thought is that it feels like a ploy to inject some spice into the character and to get her in the picture again.

Other than that, I don't see anyone except the strict religious taking issue against this. She was already a sex symbol to male geeks, and now she's an even bigger one, cuz lesbians are awesome!

Now all that's left is for Poison Ivy and Harley Quin to come out of the closet -- People can't seem to get enough of shipping them.

Why does it have to be something that's drawn attention to? People will make a fucking press release for anything these days. "We got rid of superman's red underwear, TELL THE NEWSPAPERS!"

While bringing up the underwear was stupid, this usually comes down to a combination of answering allegations of "diversity issues" as loudly as possible, and vain hope that diversity in comics will boost sales, knowing that most people need big attention grabbing headlines to even know that comics still exist.

I don't argue the point. I miss the days when I could just stumble into relationships like Phylia vell and moondragon, or Hulkling and Wiccan, or even just "ultimate Colossus, and the oldest girl in Power Pack are gay, cool" without the press trying to make clicks with every non-hetero character the web readers will recognize.
