I already figured that she was bi. Not sure why it warranted a big announcement... it's not like these things particularly matter to characters who have continuity wipes every two years or whatever.

(Shrugs) Not surprised. Even in Arkham City, I kind of got the feeling that she might be a little flirty with Ivy.

They did. It was revealed by the events of the comic, not in a press release.

Uhhh this is new's worthy of a full article hollywoodreporter? Why is this such a big deal? Ok then...

It would depend on the context for me, if their was an interesting story reason for it, then I'm totally fine with it, but I am sick of people being bi-sexual or homo-sexual just for the sake of "Political Correctness" or "Controversy moves units"

So really I'm indifferent overall but I hate poorly written changes/characters shoehorned into something "just because we need to have everything be perfectly balanced" So yeah depends on how well it's written into her character

As for this situation specifically, this reeks of pandering to me, either to the tamblr feminazi's whining about "diversity" or the nerdy boy's who find lesbians "HOT SUPER HOT" or more likely both

The ultimate comic book sex symbol is now being postured as open to at least two teams? Colour me shocked.

I know that sexual orientations apart from heterosexuality have to get any scraps available, but I can't help seeing this through the lens of all the fantasy porn rather than something actually empowering or meaningful. Something to get the boys excited about being with a few girls at once rather than anyone else.
Yeah, it does come across that way...

Then again, I've had conversations with guys that were into me, but just talking to, and when the subject of me being bi comes up, sooner or later they start to ask weird questions...
Also this bizarre conversation I've been having with this one guy... Who, again I'm not in any way having a relationship with, but he really likes me...
I sometimes mention I've been talking to other people. And when he hears it's other guys, he acts all jealous, but when it's girls he doesn't care.
Even when I point out to him that in terms of the risk of me doing anything that he might have reason to be jealous of both are pretty similar, he still says it doesn't bother him to think of me spending time with another girl.

Then again, he asks stupid stuff like 'can he watch' as if that's even remotely how this works...
A relationship is a relationship, and no, you can't watch... Ugh. >_<

Anyway, I guess what I was getting at is the tendency for girl on girl things to often be aimed at a male audience rather than the girls themselves is vastly more common.
I don't get it, but that's how it seems to go.
(Also, guys get weird ideas if you mention it at all... Like, really weird... XD)

I'm against this. It certainly fits her character and explains a lot, but given DC's recent track record with writing minority characters (and writing characters, and just writing anything at all really) I don't think they'll do it anything close to well.

Now all that's left is for Poison Ivy and Harley Quin to come out of the closet -- People can't seem to get enough of shipping them.
It wasn't directly said in the show, but they were a on/off couple in the DCAU cartoon. There was even a scene of them in a crappy motel room with one bed wearing nothing but shirts and talking about how useless men were.

In that case I salute the writers for it, but I'd like to protract my complaint by asking why is this important, and didn't we all already kinda know about this anyway?

Somehow this doesn't really surprise me. I'm not exactly a comic aficionado, but I'd gotten the distinct impression that they'd at least teased the idea a few times.

I know, I mean cake? Every tabloid knows its not news until they have a bun cooking in the oven. *mutters about stories about store bought pastries*

Well i'm no comic book guy, but she does come across as quite bi enough to make me assume that was the case. Ain't no biggy, i guess some people got to make a big song and dance about any change, really.

Oh dear, yes there are no shortage of people quite like that. Fairly depressing but best to just humour them really. I hear many things that are asked to my friends, seemingly fueled by self fullfilling sexual desires. The tinterwebs just makes it easier.

Well, I agree there.

Though the question of why outlets feel the need to report on it (when it should be a nonissue) is, in part, answered by the fact that this thread will get a second page.

Don't Care.

I think it's good for comics to represent more bisexual characters but I could care less about the personal intimate relationships of about 90% of superheroes out there. I don't want to read a comic to learn about these characters sexual escapades...I'd rather the stories focus on other things.

For example, knowing that Bruce Wayne is a homosexual and the Joker is a transexual would not enhance or detract from their lore in any meaningful way. It's just a fact that we didn't need to know about and never needed to draw attention to begin with. Much like how I wouldn't need to know these characters stance on religion, abortion, political leanings, etc.

Note: If it's not abundantly clear from my response already I'm not a comic book person to begin with. The vast majority of my exposure to these characters come from tv, video games and movies. In comics the need to delve into sexual relationships and character views on controversial issues might be more important than I give it credit.

It's not that she's bi that's bothering me. Rather, it's the fact that this is such big news. Like, stop making a fuss over stuff like this. It's pandering to Tumblrinas. Let it happen like in Korra. Now that was how to do it!
obviously anything like this is pandering to those fucking freaks on tumblr /s

I'm so sorry it hurts your sensibilities

No really I'd like to make a formal apology to ANYONE who feels their jimmies rustled by the very MENTION of someone being bi/whatever other sexuality

I know it must be really hard to be reminded to other peoples existence, it must be really painful

I too would like both real and fictional characters to not make a big deal about their sexuality but as it happens they nee dto shove it our faces at EVERY opportunity thereby ruining our day

I now would like to go back to the real world where hetero pairings are in no way shoved in my face...yay!

A bit meh on it, since it's almost certainly going to be fetishized at some point (and it kinda already has been) because it's Catwoman. But if they want to pretend that it's solely a move for diversity they can go ahead. Maybe they can introduce an actually interesting non-hetero character sometime in the future.

I guess it's not a bad thing but it just feels a bit.......fanservicey. "What? an improbably beautiful female antihero came out as bi? And the overwhelmingly heterosexual male comic-book writers were behind the decision?"

It is a bit of a surprise to hear, but one thing it is not is "courageous". Now if they announced that Batman was bi...... oh the fanfiction.

My money would be on the Flash and/or Aquaman getting the announcement.

For the record unless they explicitly state their sexuality as lesbian more or less every female comic book character is bisexual. or at least it's assumed as much. call it sexist, call it stupid it just IS. cannon sexuality generally only matters if that character is currently involved in a relationship and even then most fans still assume said character is whatever sexuality they, the reader, prefer. The winchesters will always be gay to some people no matter how many times they hook up with women. poison ivy and harley quinn will always be a couple to some people no matter what harley does with joker. arguing over character sexuality is silly for these reasons. It's in the eye of beholder so to say.

Anyone upset by this is being silly, It's not going to spread the "gay agenda" or corrrupt your youths it's just a comic book character and it's not like there isn't just a mountain of lesbian catwoman porn already this won't effect that.
