well, i guess i have to go with the super-mega-positive option, since there isnt anything for what i think, which is that it will be great, but not spectacular

Looks to me like a mix between Dead Rising and Fallout 3, in which case I'm in. Looks pretty awesome to me, but I'll see; I won't be able to afford it when it comes out, so while I would pre-order it if I could afford it, review scores and peer reviews will end up influencing my choice as well. We'll see.

EDIT: Plus, if the reveal trailer showed anything, it's that the team has some semblance of artistic sensibility. That helps a lot.

People are making to big a deal about how emotional the trailer was, what did you honestly expect the gameplay to feature? children being eaten left right and centre? Its very rare that a trailer actually depicts the content of a game anyway *Cough dragon age* as the idea of a trailer is to advertise the game to you

This is what I know so far:

Each character is a specific class and each of them has a specialty they can implement.

The gameplay will be open-world and mission-based.

There will be vehicles.

You can craft/modify some weapons but there are limits to the combinations you can employ.

There is a distinctive narrative that involves figuring out how to escape as well as discovering what caused the outbreak in the first place, but it's balanced with exploration.

The combat has been specifically focused on to be as visceral as possible. Guns are in the game but they are rare, in-keeping with the theme of being a tourist.

One of the characters is a Russian named Nicoli.

Based on that, I still think it's too early to form a completely concrete opinion. Just call me skeptical but interested.

This game sounded fun back when it was announced. Way, way back when it was announced.

Now it just seems like everyone has beaten Techland to the punch and the cake is all gone. It could still be a good game, I'm just not very optimistic about it.

I am looking forward to it. The gameplay seems to be a long held personally dream if mine: the make shift weaponry (along with the more realistic lack of copious amounts of firearms) of dead rising-the OTT aspect+open world gameplay. If it meets the CG trailer's suggested promise of an in depth, emotional, and frightening zombie apocalypse story, I'll be extra pleased, but even if not, the gameplay looks set to portray a feel of skin-of-your-teeth survival.

I feel like this could be a solid game, though there will be no way of knowing until I actually playing. That being said, the initial trailer was EPIC and it would not be getting as much media attention if its debut trailer had shared more in common with the actual game. So I feel like its very up in the air and most likely will be average.

I'm looking forward to it. It looks like it will kind of be like a first person Dead Rising 2 with a more 'realistic' way of handling the setting, story, and such. Not to mention that it also seems like it will have a bigger world. Hmm... maybe a better way to describe it would be if Oblivion met Dead Rising 2 or something.

Also, the player character makes a remark every single time you kill a zombie. They better fix that.
Unless they have over 500,000 different lines of dialogue and taunts for each character ;) But yeah, that's prolly gonna be fixed.
According to a developer commentary thingamajig, the taunts will change as your character levels up. So basically, they'll start off being scared and freaked out but be spouting offhand one-liners by the end of the game.

Admittedly, it's not a bad idea. I've certainly heard worse. However, given how many zombies you're going to be killing and that there are multiple (guessing four) playable characters, I doubt they will be able to avoid some serious repetition.

There's not a character named Nicoli though. The characters are xian mei, sam b, logan, and purna. Anyways

OT this looks amazing to me. I mean, open world? Check. Amazing graphics? Check, Zombies o' plenty? Check. What more could you ask for? Well, i mean they could add in 4 player co-op, an engaging story, and rpg elements...that would make it perfect....oh wait, they did:3

Everything about this game is nicely aligned for it to be a fairly entertaining title. The setting, characters, combat, and conflict all seem to make it quite appealing. The only thing that worries me is that the story may fall flat. I'm definitely keeping my eye on it, but - as they say - the proof is in the pudding.

This'll probably be a game I watch somebody play instead of going and buying it and playing it myself. Or in the very least watch enough of it to determine whether or not it's worth my money. I've never been too impressed with it, ever since a friend told me he was emotionally moved by the trailer and forced me to watch it. It just doesn't come across to me as anything too new or original.

Though I could be proven completely wrong. We'll see, I suppose.

I love that everybody who saw the trailer are freaking out over the gameplay.

"WHAT? THIS ISN'T THE EMOTIONAL ROLLER-COASTER THE TRAILER PROMISED! THEY LIED TO US! THIS GAME IS GOING TO BE HORRIBLE!"

I'm cautiously optimistic about it. The game looks like it's a cross between Dead Rising and Borderlands. I like the Dead Rising games, but the time limit always pisses me off. As for Borderlands, it's one of my favorite games in the past few years. I can play it for hours on end (in SINGLE PLAYER, no less) without any boredom.

I'll probably wait a bit and hear what people have to say about it before I make my decision to purchase it or not.

This is pretty much how I feel about it, I'm hoping it can provide the same great multiplayer experience that Borderlands did.

Oh god I know, people got so worked up and excited about a short CGI "video" (I'm not even gonna bother calling it a trailer). Yes it was interesting but what surprises me is that people are actually confused and surprised that the gameplay isn't like the first "video" saying stupid stuff like "The first trailer was awesome but then I saw the gameplay and it wasn't anything like it and I got completely turned off by it." Hell it made me laugh.

Edit: this came out weird, gonna try again.

Ok, so is it just me, or does Dead Island look like a knock-off of Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead?

Please don't tell me i'm the only one.
