I stuck by Gamespot's choice.
Fallout 3 ftw. GTA IV was a good game though, just not the best, by far. Then again, neither was COD 4, Fable II or GOW 2. Definately not.
I honestly think Left 4 Dead and Burnout: Paradise should've got more praise though. I don't care if Paradise is an old game, it rocks.

I only got GTA IV for car-jacking and stupid pointless fun. Then, I got a depressing fat guy and internet dating. In short, there were some way better games from last year.

I liked it for that reason. I liked way more than Crackdown which had a lot of stupid fun stuff but was too so soulless that none had any meaning. The Serious atmosphere of GTA IV made all the explosions and chases feel more intense.keyper159 said:
Spike TV is not a creditable source for announcing the GOTY, just look at all the shows they play on the network: CSI, CSI:NY, UFC, UFC:reality show (some team douche vs. other team douche [now with more useless smack talk!]) and then Star Trek... And then the all of the massive failed TV shows they tried to promote: Ratman, Stripperella, Blade: The Series etc.

I'm pretty sure they're biased. It is the MANLY MAN MAN channel after all. They probably wouldn't touch a game like LittleBigPlanet or Fire Emblem.

I thought it deserved Game of the Year. It was extremely overrated and not worthy of a perfect score from any site or magazine, but I think its quality surpassed that of other games, including Fallout 3.
Most of the hate it gets is a result of how well it was received and reviewed, but looking past all that, it's really a great game.

No doubt that GTAV was a great game its just not the best.
If I had to vote for the best I'd say Gta chinatown wars cause you can hangout with your friends at school and stuff.

It was a decent game, but it forgot what GTA was supposed to be about: mindless, cartoony fun.

A lot of games disappointed me last year but I have to say that GTA 4 wasn't one of them. Where a lot of people were upset by the lack of crazy features like jet packs and so forth I was happy to see one of the crimes games stay serious all they way. So I think it was well deserved.
GTA4 probably got GOTY because it was another part of what has been a successful series (just make a sequal to a famous and widely loved game and many people will forgive you for the faults present purely because they like the series, look at Super Mario, Sonic and Resident Evil).
I personally don't think it deserved Game of the Year (I only played it a short while and I found that I couldn't be bothered with it after about half an hour, myself and the friend I was playing it with quickly shut it off and began playing HOTD Overkill again), I would have given that title to either Left 4 Dead (far from perfect but it can kill a few hours for you) or Fallout 3 (yet again, large number of issues with it but it wasn't bad...it just wasn't as good as they said it was).
