Hey guys I'm new to the Escapist Forums so sorry if this question has already been asked but I was wondering how many of you guys have lost all reason to replay any of the Mass Effect games after the seeing the ending to Mass Effect 3?

I love the Mass Effect games but I just cant be bothered to play them again now that I know I'm going to get one of four shitty endings so I was just wondering how many of you guys are in the same boat?

Oh yeah, we've had this thread and then some.

But to answer the question, no, it didn't discourage me from replaying the series. Although it did try mighty hard.

I've since played and enjoyed ME3 a second time and intend to replay the trilogy multiple times whenever I have the time and inclination.

However, I can understand why other people would feel differently. I had the same reaction to Battlestar Galactica (the TV series). Thoroughly enjoyed most of it. Then it ended with a unsatisfying squelch and I suddenly lost all enthusiasm for it whatsoever. Never watched any of it again.

EDIT: Hang on, you've done the reverse poll options thing. I voted "no" as in "no it didn't ruin the re-playability", not "no, I won't play it again."

Not at all for me. In fact, the Extended Cut fixed 90% of my problems with the original ending. The Mass Effect trilogy is an amazing game series, and one I plan to never get rid of from my gaming shelf. I spent a long time as Commander Shepard, and he got the honor he deserved at the end.

Also, welcome to the Escapist!

Thanks for the welcome Kyosai7. The Extended Cut fixed most of the problems for me with the ending to however the only main problem I have with it is how linear the endings are and that nothing will change depending on my choices besides a picture at the end. It makes me not want to bother replaying it however if they make another Mass Effect game I will definitely buy it day one as I love the whole series and the universe Bioware created :)

Yeah, that's one of the things I didn't like, but still, at least it provided closure. Still, it does talk about what happens as a result of my actions, taking into account so much of what I did, so I'm satisfied with it, and I'll probably replay the games someday. MAybe as a FemShep, just 'cause.

Why do people reverse the options in the poll from what the thread title is?

OT - Yes, I will replay the entire trilogy again.

Nope. No matter what the ending was, I have no desire to replay the series.

For me, it's just not a repayable franchise in the way that Dragon Age is.

Yeah, it killed replayability for me.

I'm not going to argue the merits, or lack thereof dependent on your views, of the ending in any other regard, but it - and the majority of ME3 - have left me with no reason to replay the games. Might do 1 again a few years from now when I've forgotten most of it, as it was a good game, but I'm less likely to put up with the grind of 2, and 3 I'm not touching again.

The main reason it has no replayability for me is partially thanks to choices, and partially thanks to the ending itself.

Choices are very unsatisfactorily addressed by 3. Bioware went tell don't show with their presentation of things, and most of your choices in the series boiled down to an email saying "This happened, here's some assets". Beyond that poor presentation, the choices don't really effect anything beyond an arbitrary number either, and turn out as mostly pointless. The main exception to this is Tuchanka.

The endings themselves also kill replayability by mixing in with the fact that choices effect nothing but an arbitrary number, and boiling down the conclusion to the series to a bespoke ending that everyone gets. There is no reason to go back and try different choices, as they lead to the same end, and not a ton of difference in 3 itself.

it really did ruin the series for me. i mostly played Mass Effect for the story (gameplay was good but not my main focus) so knowing that nearly the entire story is now meaningless just ruins it completely for me

Mass Effect is a great game series. Ergo, it is still good enough to play again.

Infamous 2 had equally horrible endings, but I can still have fun with the gamplay and story of that series. I honestly dont understand how 30 mins out of the last game could make people so jaded they give up on the preceeding 200 hours of enjoyment.

No it didn't yes not ruin the appeal of unliking the non-enjoyment of unreplaying it.

Sort your poll options out mate!

What did you dislike about the Infamous 2 endings?

(Note: I'm not disagreeing or challenging you here. I don't really have any opinion one way or the other. Just curious since most folks seemed to like them.)

Well, the evil ending is about what I would have expected I guess. IE, making a selfish choice to gain power. You become what you are built up to destroy. It's poetic and symbolism ect.

But then you get to the "good" ending, and it turns out...

You kill all the conduits in the world. Cole isnt being a hero and sacrificing himself and the people that choose to be by his side. He kills off a large chunk of the planet. How on earth did they think that genocide would the good option?

Forcing me to choose between making the conduits suffer and making the humans suffer was a shot in the balls.

Maybe you should set the poll options to be answers to what the topic question poses rather than the opposite because you will get people who aren't paying attention and vote the wrong way.

It ruined replay for me, I never played it again, it's dead to me.

They wanted to end it in a shit way so I will show the series the respect it deserves. After all, its what the developers wanted so it's what they get.

Screw. Them.

It hasn't ruined any part of it for me. I still think people are overreacting about the ending, but I was one of the few people who enjoyed it.

I would replay the entire trilogy, but after how much the combat and inventory system have improved, I don't know if I could go back. I would probably start ME2 with Genesis downloaded.

Nah, the ending of Mass Effect 3 has little to do with it. The EC fixed most of what I thought was wrong with it, so there's that.

It's just that I've played through Mass Effect 1 and 2 so many times already prior to ME 3's release that I get bored just thinking about having to go through it all again. Hell, I know some of the conversation by haert now.

Maybe one day, when I'm feeling lucky, I'll go for a perfect run. Maybe.
