Neo-libs everywhere are rejoicing. Remember ? war is evil unless it?s sprinkled with the magic pixie dust of UN endorsement and ?humanitarian? rhetoric, in which case the dead bodies, the terror, and the screaming children are all worth it. The fact that Libya is the richest oil nation on the entire African continent is a mere coincidence. Go back to sleep ? basketball is on the TV. Soon you?ll be able to crack open a 6 pack and enjoy the air strikes like you would a Dwyane Wade slam dunk.
This is precisely what we predicted before Obama even took office?.
?Obama may eventually withdraw a portion of troops from Iraq, but mark our words, they won?t be home long before they are sent off to bomb another broken-backed third world country, this time in the name of a United Nations-backed ?humanitarian? war, just as Bill Clinton presided over in Somalia and Serbia with the full support of the establishment political left.?
-Paul Joseph Watson

Despite Mr. Watson's opinion about oil, I'm more concerned about the waging war thing, not that Libya wasn't doing a good job of that already

I don't believe it, another war, isn't the United Nations Peace Council supposed to keep peace. Seems like the only thing they do now is approve of wars.

I suppose one can see a noble cause in supporting the libyan rebels....

But don't go complain if afterwards they win with your help and end up putting people in power you don't like 10 years down the line.

If you want war with somebody you should accept being invader and bad and all, not hide behind some multilatteral organisation.

Libya didn't attacked anyone, didn't even threaten to, they were just resolving internal conflict, just like US did in civil war.

Those rebels were mostly criminals and foreign merceneries who lied to people about better life and money from west and pushed perfectly peaceful country into civil war.

The Secret Police and occasional death squad hardly ever happened anyways. Truly, it was the happiest country in the area ever. Flowers and unicorns, amiright?

seems to me like its too little too late, the rebels have practically lost already and air power alone wont stop the remaining from being killed. We ought to just send in the bloody SAS to take out Gadaffi.

Wait, the UN has an army? Oh crap, Command & Conquer is one step closer to coming true.

Does the army happen to have the name "Global Defense Initiative"?

Okay seriously I'm not making fun of this, especially since real war is always a scary thing. And this just seems off to me. I dunno how or why.

The idealist in me says it's a good thing to help the less fortunate. Of course, the pragmatic me knows that it won't make a difference. They'll help them now, then the governments will depose the new tyrant they themselves put into power later on. It's a horrible, fucked up game of power they play. It's pretty sad.

Nah, he just threatened to kill a large number of people, which, considering his previous record in dealing with basically anything he did not agree with, is about par for the course.

Those rebels were mostly criminals and foreign merceneries who lied to people about better life and money from west and pushed perfectly peaceful country into civil war.
From what I've heard, it was Khadaffi employing foreign mercenaries to deal with the rebels. More than that: Libya is has not been 'perfectly peaceful' for a long time.

I honestly thought americans would be all for this: this is another dictator, and this time, the people actually seem to want freedom.

no, they should have never intervened, its too late anyway, if they piss off khadaffi enough he will unleash chemical weapons, i jsut know he will XD.
so its better to have him there, and have the region stabile, then NOT have him there, get the same killcount, and have the place disorganised and dirty

Bah, more 'We's iz there for teh oilz!' rhetoric.

It grows tiresome.
Well, it might be kinda true. Since before now it looked like Gadaffi was going to win, and everyone in the UN had already lent at least lip support to the rebels, nobody wants Gadaffi coming back and using Libya's oil resources as leverage to screw everyone else over. I believe Gadaffi (or his supporters) said as much when the tide turned against the rebels.

So yeah, that's probably part of it.

Of course, this is bad for the rebels, because they wanted to throw Gadaffi out and have their country free-and-clear, whereas now it looks like there's likely to be some EU and US imperialism under the guise of "Nation Building" in Libya.

Its a bit late but yeah I think it is, slaughtering people who want democracy is wrong.
Gadaffis gone doodah so yeah, the sooner hes out, the better.

One revolution in Egypt starts a bigger revolution in Libya.

I wanted to take this seriously but the OP started with "neo-libs" which instantly made anything he had to say not worth reading :/.

Shame really, I imagine it could have been an interesting conversation.

Didn't you know? They also have a squadron, too. One of my favorite side-scrollers of the SNES era. I played the female pilot, mostly.

...your kidding? hahaha.......seriously?

you relize that even before civil war broke out the government began having jets strafe protestors right? or were the protestors merceneries and criminals who lied to?

i havent read up on what lead up to the un doing this but to the op you are confused that the US is not the UN and just because the UN declared war on libya doesnt mean the US did and what are you talking about obama for, if the UN declared war on libya what does that have to do with him?

as a internet comedian once said "you are projecting so hard that you could show off powerpoint presentations"

edit: maybe its because im tired but i guess i didnt catch the obvious blame it on obama politics so just ignore the most of that post because to most people its obvious anyway

The Libyan rebels actually want that to happen, they requested an assasination attempt on G/Qadaffi

Let's just hope that 10 year part doesn't happen..Or sooner.

Honestly, I've been loving to hear about how countries are rebelling against their leaders for a better country where they have more rights. Sad however that unlike Egypt Gadaffi wasn't willing to step down or stop the protest. Though it shouldn't be our business due to Iraq and Afganistan (sp?) I'm happy they are choosing to help, even if the help right now is very little.
