Those rebels were mostly criminals and foreign merceneries who lied to people about better life and money from west and pushed perfectly peaceful country into civil war.

The idealist in me says it's a good thing to help the less fortunate. Of course, the pragmatic me knows that it won't make a difference. They'll help them now, then the governments will depose the new tyrant they themselves put into power later on. It's a horrible, fucked up game of power they play. It's pretty sad.

Nah, he just threatened to kill a large number of people, which, considering his previous record in dealing with basically anything he did not agree with, is about par for the course.

From what I've heard, it was Khadaffi employing foreign mercenaries to deal with the rebels. More than that: Libya is has not been 'perfectly peaceful' for a long time.

Well, it might be kinda true. Since before now it looked like Gadaffi was going to win, and everyone in the UN had already lent at least lip support to the rebels, nobody wants Gadaffi coming back and using Libya's oil resources as leverage to screw everyone else over. I believe Gadaffi (or his supporters) said as much when the tide turned against the rebels.

So yeah, that's probably part of it.

Of course, this is bad for the rebels, because they wanted to throw Gadaffi out and have their country free-and-clear, whereas now it looks like there's likely to be some EU and US imperialism under the guise of "Nation Building" in Libya.

i havent read up on what lead up to the un doing this but to the op you are confused that the US is not the UN and just because the UN declared war on libya doesnt mean the US did and what are you talking about obama for, if the UN declared war on libya what does that have to do with him?

Honestly, I've been loving to hear about how countries are rebelling against their leaders for a better country where they have more rights. Sad however that unlike Egypt Gadaffi wasn't willing to step down or stop the protest. Though it shouldn't be our business due to Iraq and Afganistan (sp?) I'm happy they are choosing to help, even if the help right now is very little.
