Simple question, hm?

We've all seen a great deal of, um... let's call it "antipathy", for Modern Warfare 3 on the internet, and not just on the ol' Escapist. Every fetid corner of the net that plays host to those querulous creatures known as "gamers" has been ringing with impotent squeals of outrage, apparently triggered by the fact that this game dares to exist.

Now don't get me wrong, this isn't a "why all the hate" thread. I am sufficiently detached from the Call of Duty series to not give a damn either way. However, I am very curious to see just how all that text and fury measures up to the one statistic that matters: sales.

Or, to put it another way, considering that MW3 sold like hot cakes, just how big is this noisy minority?

I release that RPG-snob central the Escapist forums are hardly the ideal place to ask this question, but sadly I lack the capacity to ask the entire internet.

So... have at it.

...

PS. Oh, and in the interests of disclosure and all that jazz, I did not buy it.

Yeah, I got it, although I traded in some old games so I got it for £20, not the £38 it was going for at the time.

About 2 days, 10 hours overall on the MP, a few hours on the Spec Ops side of things and 10 hours on the campaign[footnote]Ran through it on Regular, went back for the intel and started a Veteran run that I need to finish off.[/footnote], I think I've gotten more than my fair share of time from it. I still play it now and again though, just not as much as I used to. I've picked up BF3 and borrowed various games from the girlfriend, so those combined have pushed my MW3 playing time down a far bit.

Good fun with friends, too. Surprised it took them til Blops to include online split-screen guests, really.

Sure didn't, my dislike for activision and the whole scene of that game kept me far away from it. No big loss, there have been far too many good games lately for me to really give a hoot.

I wanted to see how the story ended and I was quite satisfied and Spec Ops/Survival are a blast with a friend. Plus multiplayer is still fun for me. :)

I did not get it, and probably will not any time soon. I've played MW2 and Black Ops. Storywise I liked Black Ops more, plus Zombies mode was ridiculously fun. As for competitive play, though, MW2 was better. The environments were much more detailed, and it felt like the ghillie suits actually concealed you. Add that with the amazing M82Al, and there were lotsa bodies feasting rats. The L96 in Black Ops sucked. Every time I shot it, it went upward like I was supposed to make an erection joke out of it. The Intervention was way easier to handle.

I also liked the idea of working toward weapon attachments by getting kills with weapons rather than spending accumulated points. Black Ops did have that customize your own emblem thing where I made a cool one of a coat-of-arms featuring a shield, two axes, and a red skull with an inverted crucifix on it; but even that got tiring after seeing so many others with a pickle connected between a man's crotch and a deer's butt. But Black Ops did have dual mag, which got more use than any other attachment in the game from me.

How does this all play out in MW3?

No, I didn't. I have never been interested in the series and certainly am not really interested in the genre. The only reason I see to own it is if I got it for free. I'm not bashing the game, it literally has no value for me. I watched a friend of mine play through the single player of MW 1 and 2 (as well as 2/3 or 3/4 of Black Ops) and I though they weren't too bad both story and gameplay-wise, but none of the games would hold my attention.

No. And any chance of me buying a copy disappeared with the ridiculous retail price it still holds. Why pay $50-60 for a game that is replaced every 8 months. The only time they drop the prices to something reasonable is when the newest game is about to come out. I don't understand why I still have to pay $20 for Black Ops ..

Yeah, have got my money's worth out of it as well the amount of time I put into it with friends. I would've played it mroe actually but for me wanting to play some old games I never got round to playing and the bunch of games my brothers and I got for Christmas.

No for two reasons. I am not interested in the campaigns of games like CoD and Battlefield, they seem boring and overdone to me. I picked Battlefield over CoD because of how much I liked the multiplayer BF2.

Reason 2 would be that CoD doesn't have jets in the multiplayer, or really any other vehicles for that matter beyond kill streaks or whatever system they have in the new one.

Ok, the last few posts I have seen from you have had some generalized, passive-aggressive and snide attack directed towards different groups of people in them. Can I kindly ask, what is your problem?

No, but I don't go around calling it shit either. Hell, at release I confronted quite a few people about whether they had played it before calling it bad.

No and I didnt I have enjoyed a bit of MW (which I borrowed from a friend) and a bit of MW2 (which I bought cheap) but after that I was done I have been burnt out on the FPS genre since Halo 2 and MW wasnt the one to alter that I probably lasted about 15 hours play between them a pathetic amount really but it was all I could take.

I also know fewer people who bought MW3 in RL when compared to MW2 or Black OPS and no-one who still plays it which is odd as before almost everyone I knew who bought them would play COD continuously until the next one was released.

No, but I rented it from Lovefilm to play the campaign. It was a blast, then I sent it back. That was all I wanted from it.

Of course I bought it. It's the best multiplayer FPS on the market.

I can understand why some people dislike it, but to give it a low review score makes no sense.
