Yea, I liked her in general. Wouldn't say she's one of the greatest, but a strong character, for sure.

She was all right. It's annoying when people vilify her as some kind of amazing feat of game design though.

Very much so.

She is probably one of the few female video game characters these days that actually has redeeming qualities and aren't just there to serve as eye candy.

Nah she was fairly flat and had short hair, no cleavage Oh wait you mean character wise...

No. She was annoying at best. There has never been any character I especially liked unless they were badass like the Jackal from FC2.

You do not know how many times I have rewatched her getting a stun baton lodged in her face. *Watches again* Take that you annoying jerkwad! I really like how they managed to downplay how annoying she was.

Yes, the game did kind of force Alyx upon you as the "romantic interest" character, when frankly I had no idea who the hell she was.
Plus there is the age difference. I am not quite sure, but Freeman looks to be at least in his 40s, while Alyx may in fact still be a minor. (Although that is only on the box. Due to the lack of cutscenes, reflective surfaces, or legs when you look down there is no in game evidence that Freeman is anything more than disembodied hands.) Also, was I the only one who was bothered by the fact that her father is black (And reminds me of an old person about to drift off into an amusing anecdote) she is distinctly not black at all?

To much "grrl power!!!!11!1111!" in her personality to make her likable, and her constant sucking up to the player (as The One Free Man) doesn't compensate for this at all. I like that she wasn't some overly sexualized big-breasted bimbo (and other such generic flattery with respect to gender equality), but there's being ordinary, and then there's in your face with constant reminders that she's not, and she repeats, not the token tits in the game. They didn't just beat this dead horse, they resuscitated it, bred it with a fine stud, took it's offspring and proceeded to beat them all do death.

The short of it is she'd have been much better (in my humblest of opinions) if the devs hadn't gone so far out of their way to design her to be an asexual joyless stereotype of feminist independence.

She gets annoying when ever she's around Gordon and not shooting anything otherwise she is a pretty good support character I like her for only that reason.

Freeman was 27 in HL1, and he was put into stasis after that. Alyx is multiracial, half black and half asian. Which is why her likeness and voice come from women of the same mix.

Her mother was Asian supposedly, she is around 25 years old. Gordon isn't that old in the story either because he didn't age in the time between the end of HL1 and the beginning of HL2, which you would get had you understood the story. She was NOT 100% flat like some people are saying here, she looked more realistic without massive t**s. I liked her as a character.

I know several "Blasians" and they look nothing like that. For one thing there is actually some coloration to their skin as opposed to Alyx's distinctly Caucasian skin tone.

She was well characterized, and not a female stereotype, it made up for her having B cups and a modest amount of clothing.

From what I've seen when I played the game, I think her skin tone looks much more Asian than anything else. Though this does seem to be an odd debate to be in.

She is one of the two realistically portrayed women in popular gaming.

(Depressingly, the other one is Heather Mason, a stunningly hard-boiled yet realistic teenager.)

How was she an asexual joyless stereotype? I don't get that impression at all.
