I liked it, but I missed a lot of the features from the first game. Leveling up was dumbed down and there was less variety in weapons and equipment. I liked the new cast, but at the same time the highlights of the game were the bringing back of old members for some screentime.

Okay I guess. No where near as good as the first one was for me...or other games, but okay.
It's only playable to make sure everything is ready for ME3.

great game, one of my favourites. the only complaint I had was how they replaced driving around on planets with probing from orbit. the probing was boring as hell.

I just really wish the 3 merc groups didn't feel the need to appear in every damn non-geth, non-collector combat mission. That still frustrates me.
C'mon, LS. They're the PMCs of the ME Universe; of course the hodge-podge missions are gonna be rife them 'em. That would be like a modern-era shooter devoid of its expected number of mercs, bandits, and terrorists running around in-game. :p
Granted XD

It just felt a bit too noticeable in my opinion. The first game had it's variety of thugs and mercenaries, but I guess just the lack of colour-coded armour made them less noticeable as a cut-and-paste job. I just missed stuff like the Rachni and the Thorian, which helped break up the humanoid enemies in the first game. It's probably the same amount of variety in ME2 as in ME1, but I would have liked to have some non-mercenary groups to come up against, like the terrorists cells and commando squads in ME1.

Well they have commando squads in ME2 as well...but they're mercenaries so I refuse to count it!

Although taking on another spectre was an interesting event. Actually that whole DLC was excellent, other than your companion getting ignored.

Yes. I'll be the first to admit that they dumbed it down far too much (although that's to say that ME1 didn't need SOME dumbing down) and that missions are far less varied then those of the original. But...I don't know...the majority of your squad are so original and fully realized that interacting with them almost makes the game. Plus, the combat still works just fine, and it's still a blast to play through.

I'm hoping ME3 will fall somewhere between 1&2 on the complexity scale,(number of weapons/upgrades available, leveling up, etc.) with missions like those of ME1. I mean, if you think about the Feros mission, it was fucking HUGE. I miss that.

Oh yeah, and they should also relegate Paragon/Renegade points to an experience bar I can spend points on, so that I don't have to make consistently good/bad choices throughout the game for the best ending. That's not what morality means.

The started out both of their series with very complicated systems, and Mass Effect 2 was the first to get dumbed down. For a shooter, this actually worked very well, and I respect their decision over it. But they got either cocky or overly excited about it, and changed a RPG into an action game, which pissed the hell out of EVERYONE.

Of course I did.
I've also enjoyed Dragon Age II immensely more than Origins.
Just a preference of taste, is it all.

Turning point. I went in Afterlife and got a drink. A couple of hours later, my files got corrupted and I had to start over. When I got into the Afterlife for a second time and ordered a drink from who I thought was the same bartender, I passed out and found myself in a sidequest.

That's game power right there. It combined the best parts of RPGs and shooters. Others might complain that RPG elements got tossed out the window. I won't. Maybe cause I played this and Fallout 3 at the same time. I do not get why people get so pissed with the game. If I wanted an RPG through and through, I would buy Neverwinter Nights.

Also, biotic charge. ZBAAAAAAF!

Just because you like something doesn't mean you can't find faults in it. For instance, Mass Effect needs some better hair rendering. I'm tired of Shepherd going out in public looking like she hasn't washed her hair in a week.

Oh, and telling Garris "secks nao plolz" isn't romance. It just isn't.

Nope - didn't play it. I've tried playing the first and it is way too boring to even try to play, so I'm really not going to bother trying the second.

Over all yes. It's getting a lot of comparison to Dragon Age II because it took the franchise in the same direction. The difference is that the things that were cut away from Mass Effect to streamline (now there's the word of the month again -.-) it was dead weight, so it resulted in a better game. In Dragon Age on the other hand, the same stuff was basically cut from the game but unlike Mass Effect it was never really a problem, on the contrary, Dragon Age: Origins was already on the verge of being too simplified, so while the approach was the same the result became different.

But back to the original post. Yes I still digg ME2, almost everything they did with that game was a 100% improvement over the predecessor which was already a great game. I've always thought the story was a polished train wreck, but the game was so good I still really liked it.
