i thought the combat was better (especially the powers), but the ammo and regening health made it feel more generic, and some of the color schemes didn't help. the characters were the highlights of the game (with the exception of miranda and jacob), but the main plot was stitched together very, very, badly, leaving a great many holes. the writing and some of the set pieces were good, but the real stars were a few loyalty missions, and the quality of those justified the price.

I loved it! Best game I have ever played. Let's hope Mass Effect 3 is just as good, or maybe even better.

It's easily one of my favorite games. I'm really looking forward to the DLC that'll be released soon, and I'm gnawing my arm off hoping ME3 will be out this year, even though I'm pretty sure it'll be delayed.

Here's to hoping regardless!

I loved Mass Effect 2, it's one of my favourite games and well worth the money I paid. I just hope the story will be wrapped up well in the third instalment.

And while I'm here, I really enjoyed DA2 as well, even with the issues that it had.

However, I think it's high time everyone shut up about it, because honestly? It's all been said, and now it's just irritating whining.

Hmm... hard to say, I don't really enjoy the actual combat, the dialog is nice but I feel it's very shallow, also, very uneven graphicvs, some stuff look good, like... Shepards armor, but the enviroment look quite mediocre and sometimes flat out horrible. Although, I do... like it... kinda.

I liked it as a whole, but did not enjoy the dumbing down of the inventory system. I will say again I miss my overheating shotgun that could fire once and destroy everything in its path without the grenade skill.

for me though it felt off. I felt as though I spent all that time doing these pointless side quests leveling my allies and then then when I do the last mission its like one mission and bam game over. It made me feel like the game could have been uber short just do the mission right away, maybe Id die, but at least it felt meaningful.

Its brilliant.

People keep criticising it for not being enough of a (stats-based) RPG, which only leads me to question why the hell they were playing Mass Effect in the first place. I can't really take anyone seriously who tries to reference the first game as being deep when it comes to stats.

Its an RPG because of the conversations and choices.
Because with the option to greatly modify stats and adapt weaponry, you choose the evolution of the combat-based side of your character. Conversational choices are for the story, stat-(and weapon-)based choices are for the gameplay. Get it?
That's not what the game's about - the combat in the first suffered because of its design. In the second, you choose a class and you use skill points to set a style, but you don't get weak-feeling shooting because you haven't put enough points into your assault rifle to do any damage.

It works fine when there's a disconnect between you and the character during combat (Dragon Age), but it doesn't when you're actively shooting/hitting.

Like I said, if you were looking for the option to "greatly modify" yourself in combat in the first game, you were playing the wrong game. It was half-baked in both styles, and they took it to a near-full on TPS in regards to the combat to make it work.

I thought it improved on ME1 in every way but one aspect, the story. Maybe I missed the point, but to me it felt like the main story of the game had 3 missions, and the every other mission was either a side quest or a companion mission. I loved the characters, and played it multiple times, but the story is just completely lacking. Maybe I missed the story somehow, because everyone seems to praise it, while I thought it was nearly nonexistent compared to ME1.

I hated it, which is a shame as I loved the first game but there was little to endear the second one to me. The plot made no sence characters from the first game seemed like compleatly different people and the universe seemed a lot more smaller and less intimedating.

That said both Tali's and Legions loyalty missions were great and I wish thay had been combined and expanded to form the plot of the game rather than cerebus, who went from being a rogue Alliance black op's unit to a private organisation with no political connetions.

I don't think I'll be bothering with Mass Effect 3

I loved parts of it. The linear structure of levels was something I could do without. Overall it's a fantastic game though.

I didn't like ME2. Yes ME1 needed fixing, but ME2 didn't need to sell its soul (overly simplifying & streamlining the FUCK out of everything) to make it enjoyable for the GOW/COD gamer types.
ME2 looks and plays slick.. but god its a soulless empty game void of any personality.

There were things I preferred in both ME1 and ME2. I hope ME3 keeps what I liked from both, mashes them together, and polishes them up. A man can dream.

But yeah, I liked ME2 for the most part. It wasn't perfect but it was interesting and thoroughly enjoyable.

I think most of the flak for it came from RPG elitists. Never played DA2, so I don't know what the problem is in that one.

I don't see much to not like about it. Yeah, it has a couple flaws. Who cares? The overall presentation was amazing. A vast improvement over the last game. Including the addition of Ammo over Overheat. I hated that.

Mass Effect 2 was great, but it did deserve some critical paddling. In the first one, i could get around the minigames with omnigel. I can't do that in the second game. Why? Who thought that might be a bright idea?
And whoever thought mining was fun needs to contact me so i can buy some of his drugs, please!

Also, why i have to fly around in a ship full of nutcases, zealots and Batman?

Well ok, he's not Batman, but garrus as a Vigilante out for revenge against Villains who disrupt the normal life of Omega-ham is only missing the cowl and the Cape.

Bioware wasn't up to par with Mass Effect 2

The writing for the main story makes me cry. It's full of plot holes, inconsistencies, and idiocy. Mass Effect 2's plot could've been a LOT better and it would've made 3 even better. Instead of having an act II in their trilogy, they just had a tacked on sequel that never really moved the story forward at all.

The combat was also pretty boring. It was fun at first but I grew very tired of it by the end of the game. The whole game turned into

1.) Go to planet
2.) Talk to some people
3.) Go down a linear corridor shooting everything
4.) Talk some more
5.) Go to Normandy
6.) Rinse, Repeat

It felt very very structured. A good ammount of the loyalty missions could have been much better if it didn't follow this "formula" the game seemed to have. I greatly appreciated the ones where there was no combat (Like Thane's and Samara's) and I wish they just didn't make the game feel like a system. (Now this isn't to say combat in the game is a bad thing, it's to say it felt very structured and artificial)

Mass Effect 2 felt like a tacked on sequel rather than a planned one. It lost a bit of the feel from Mass Effect 1 (exploration. Yeah the Mako was a pain to control, but at least spending your time exploring a planet made it feel like the universe was an actual universe rather than a boring mini-game) However, looking past the insane mess of a plot and the reptitive gameplay, I quite liked Mass Effect 2. The writing for the loyalty missions were actually decent and the characters were interesting. If only that stupid plot didn't get in the way...

(1) They stripped almost all classic RPG content from it, (2) making a cover-based shooter nowadays is easy work, and (3) all those dream-team characters are dumb stereotypes...

... And yet, I couldn't stop playing Mass Effect 2. Being Shepard is awesome, and everything is immersive and worth getting invested in, from the very first seconds to the end.
