So Im reading a bunch of forums about how everyone hates Dragon Age 2 and couldnt help but notice how Mass Effect 2 was also getting some flak. I thought ME2 was a great game. It improved combat, had a nice story, interesting characters (Jack and Mordin especially) and didnt keep giving you random crap that you would just turn into omni gel later. And despite what people say, I actually liked how every character had his own unique costume instead of having to change it around with various generic body armors as you leveld up. Some more cosmetic customization would have been nice, but it certainly wasnt a deal breaker. The only thing that got to me was the box art for the standard edition.
Both Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 2 are great games, but they both suffer from similar flaws (though Dragon Age also had a handful more that I won't get into).
They both:
-Abandoned many of the RPG elements that helped define their predecessors
-Greatly simplified the leveling and party systems
-Drastically reduced the amount of playable space
-Had significantly worse stories than their predecessors
It's a perfectly valid comparison to make between them. ME2 is an excellent, but it was definitely a step backwards in a number of areas from the first game (though it made just as many steps forward).
Nothing about it was a deal breaker, but it certainly wasn't up to the standard set by the original ME.
