And basically thats how i feel about the star trek movie. You cant say, we've got 40 years of writing going into various seasons & now you want too go and re-write the start. No!
so then i guess you missed the 10 or so times they mentioned "this is an alternate time-line/universe" in the movie? it was one of the running jokes in it

i liked the movie, had tons of nods to the original one, including a couple very obscure ones like Vasquez Rocks Natural Park and of course the return of Ensign Red Shirt
I knew it was an "alternate timeline/universe" - its a cop-out. Thats my point.

It's not being rewritten. This is a divergent time line. If you want to blame the sudden change in continuity, blame Enterprise.

Partially because there will be no DS9 movie because the guys playing Worf and Sisko said they would not do a movie about DS9, and Voyager actually reached the end. So there's nothing left to actually continue. They just started a new timeline with a new cast so they can write new "what-if" stories.

It was OK. I'm not a big Star Trek fan (I've seen a couple episodes and half of a movie), so I don't know if it took a giant dump on the franchise or not.

Best word to summarize it = Meh (plus Simon Pegg, he's fucking awesome!)

Please see the post above yours.

i know theyre not re-writing it (bad phrasing by me i spose!) but i think that they can do better than this.

I think they should do something after[/I] voyager. I hated enterprise, I dislike the original series, i was all Meh about TNG, i refuse too watch DS9 & i loved voyager.

I haven't seen it. And don't plan to anytime soon on account of the part in the trailer in which people are seen free-falling through the upper atmosphere in dress uniforms.

At best I'll watch it on TV or stream it when I'm bored someday.

'Twas a lot of fun.
It wasn't really the Star Trek we know and love.
I give it a "Yay" for its own merits, though.

As a hardcore trekkie (to the point of having the captain's insignia and enterprise registration number tattooed on my arm) I can safely say I am saitsfied with the new movie. The actors all nailed their parts perfectly, the story was as epic as it needed to be, it had the perfect blend of action to humour.

The only thing that irritated me was the whole 'Spock and Uhura' thing... Star Trek doesn't need inter-crew love stories.

Other than that, fantastic film, looking forward to the next one :)

I thought it was meh.

It was a decent enough action flick, and had a some good sci-fi pew pewness and some of the actors were good, but I just didnt think it "fit" together too well.

That and Abrams need to make anything that has to do with an antagonist look as outlandish and weird as possible. I would have liked a different ship design for the narada myself, to me it wasnt menacing, it just looked like a giant piece of space coral firing lazers.

When those "tentacles" first appeared out of the rift, I was hoping for Cthulhu to grace us with his coming. Instead 'twas just a pissed-off Romulan. Meh.

that was the whole joke tho

and frankly for Star Trek to be good again, it needed this because since Deep Babylon 9 it's started to stink and has gone downhill since then

I thought that the movie needed more of the Doctor.

Brilliant actor, by far the best Bones that's hit the Star Trek scene so far.

I liked the new one. It had a lot of action and humor.
My dad told me that the new story in it, though, made a new past for the Star Trek series which would piss off all the fanboys.

I didn't like it, not one bit.

I like Star Trek but this was a generic pile of shit, written by talentless hacks for the ADD generation.

Rather than rant on about it, let's just say that I'm with Movie Bob [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/the-escapist-presents/721-MovieBob-Reviews-Star-Trek] on this one, and leave it at that.

They weren't wearing dress uniforms. They were wearing space suits, I promise. If that's the only reason why you are boycotting it, you should do yourself a favor and see it before it leaves theaters.

I liked it. Good action, good laughs, good heart-string tugging. The worst thing is Giachino's terrible puns. "Nero Death Experience?"
