I got my PS2 in 1997, still have it and it still works perfectly. Admittedly, I don't play it anymore, but the last time I fired it up, it worked without a problem.

Yes, it did. But only once. It was the big thick VCR-like one. My brother and I were playing some Red Faction (Which I thought, and still think, is a good game) multiplayer, when our dog ran by, and tripped over the cords. Wasn't the first time this happened, usually the PS2 and VCR it ironically sat on would just jolt forward half a foot, and we'd exhale a breath of relief and push it back into its cradle. However, this time, the damn thing fell all the way off, smashing onto the floor and disconnecting the power and video/audio cord. It got inspected, and what do you know, the damn gear for the disc tray had broken, so it wouldn't open without a screwdriver and a lot of pretty talking.
So a few days later, we got the PS2 slim, crisis averted. Still have the same exact PS2 sitting in my college dorm room right now. In fact I think I'll go play some Red Faction on it and enjoy myself while doing so. Excuse me.

The only thing that's a bit dodgy about my PS2 is the control stick on one of the controllers, it's kinda loose. Other than that, though, it has never failed me!

From the birth of the PS2 to the PS3, my PS2 didn't not faulter, it stood firm in the face of many hours of prolong gaming and many hours of running without playing.

Was a shame to 'er go.

my PS2 never broke and still works peachy now, several years after I bought it.

But that is nothing compared to my Playstation.. probably the sturdiest piece of gaming technology ever built.

My PS2 still hasn't broken on me.
It sometimes shuts off when the console is moved even a fraction (which is due to a loose cable at the back) and a bit of tinkering is required for it to play God of War 2 (and only GoW 2) but other than that it still works perfectly fine

Have had mine since 2004, still works like a charm. Never had any problems unlike my ps3 which has failed once.

I have a launch day PS2 that works phenomenally. *knock on wood* I had to clean the lens once because it was having some issues reading disks, but since then it's been working just fine. Amazing piece of hardware.

My PS2 has been through a lot got it when ratchet and clank came out(can't remember year)and has never failed me so in my eyes the PS2's are indestructible.

I've had 3 PS2s. Two of the fat ones and one of the slim ones, I still have one of the fat ones and the slim. I sold the first fat one I had when I got tired of it and decided I wanted an xbox. I bought another PS2 maybe a month later.

My first PS2 broke, not sure exactly what was wrong with it, but it stopped reading everything.

The Slim that I bought not to long after that has worked just fine to this day, which is great because I've recently been going back to pick up classics that I missed the first time around, like Beyond Good & Evil. :D

My old fatty never broke. It just stopped playing newer PS2 games. I don't know if it was the system or the software that did that.

Mine never died. But I think at least 4 controllers stopped working for no apparent reason.

My PS2 must be made of Nintendium.

It's never had any problems. With anything. Ever.

I don't know if I would necessarily qualify it as the PS2 breaking but mine was slowly starting to get weird on me. Like, by the time I moved onto the Ps3/360 the only way the PS2 would read disks is if I placed it upside down. It's like it really really wanted to fail, but it just couldn't make it there.

No, never. Neither my PS2 fat nor my Slimline model ever failed duty. Sure, the laser of my Slimline was a ***** at times and destroyed quite a few discs, but that was only after extensive usage. I must've launched Tony Hawk's Underground 2 over 10 000 times...

My Slimline was even among that bunch supposedly prone to battery overheating. It's not once been hotter than what I deemed dangerous.
