I normally play on easy just to finish the game, then if I want to get the rest of the achivements then I will play on a harder difficulty. I don't use cheats unless I really have to.

Don't really like the poll. I think challenge is a part of the overall experience. Playing games on (very) easy can really change the experience of a game if you compare it to the higher difficulty settings where you often have to be more resourcefull or just more skillfull to overcome whatever it is you're facing.

I wouldn't cheat in game story modes, as I enjoy the challenge. I often complete campaigns on the hardest difficulty (Gears 1&2, CoD 4&Waw).

However, I would use cheats when just playing around in sandbox games, such as GTA.

yeah most experience for me
challenge maybe sometimes, but I usually play to relax if anything (not stress myself out more)

the thing with cheating is you don't experience the game at it's best you don't get the tension of knowing you're running out of items and so-on so sometimes cheating dosen't give you the whole experience of the game.

i don't use cheats except occasionally for fun and when it doesn't mean anything at all ie when i'm messing about with some friends

thanks to my poor reflexes though, i'm usually forced to go through a lot of games on easy mode

I always play through once without cheats for the experience (though depending on the game a walkthrough may be necessary for bits and pieces). After that, all bets are off, unless I feel like going through on a different difficulty.
After two run thrus of Gladius I started cheating, but it was hilarious to see a leopard with full armor and a shield on its head.
Anymore, I almost always cheat at Warcraft and Starcraft (but I've also been playing them over and over for years). And then there was the cow level....

I play for the challenge.

I am also proud of the fact that I beat Mike Tyson with a first round TKO in Punch out for the nes.

I normally start on easy while I familiarise myself with the game. Once I am used to it I will start over on hard if it's available I like to be challenged by the game.

I don't actually remember the last time I cheated on a game, it ruins it for me.

Also, ridiculous difficulties are fun. I always give them a go.

I tend to go for the hardest setting I can get away with, so I suppose the challenge is important to me. However, the experience is important to me, and I like to feel that my incredibly difficult battles are worth something in the gaming world.

FPS = Hard/Insane/Veteran/whatever, it's the only way to make these games even remotely challenging.

Everything else = normal, unless that turns out to be a cakewalk.

As far as cheats go, I'll dupe items here and there (where possible, if I really want something), but nothing beyond that.

I play games to decimate noobs and make myself feel as if I have accomplished something.

Seriously.
I play games to follow people like this about and piss them off. It's fun.

On single player games, I usually play to see the storyline and make up new and exciting ways to hack people apart - I don't give a damn about challenge, so I usually put it down to the easiest setting. That said, I'm playing through Fallout 3 on the hardest setting, because it makes everything seem far more "real".
So it's YOU who uses the stealth pack and sledgehammer!

What's wrong with stealth 'n sledge (yes, i've given it an awesome name)? You're just jealous because you lack the mad skillz needed for it.

megh I play for fun mostly...I have no need to try and flaunt my imaginary digital balls are. ( or you could use other examples for we lasses, but you get the point)

that being said..I tend to play something on easy/casual first if it's a game I'm not familiar with..then rev up the difficulty.

though I'm not really a fan of cheats....( other than ones that unlock content)

I use cheats in games if it makes the game more fun. Example, Contra without the 30 lives cheat is ridiculously difficult. Pokemon games without infinite Rare Candies and such are boring and/or frustrating.

I usually play on the medium or middle-high difficulty my first time, then step it up as I feel comfortable.

I play games (online, anyways) to spank noobs. If it isn't multiplayer, then I'm probably not playing it. The exception is Mass Effect.

I play or the regular or "normal" difficulty to begin with, and then if I enjoy the game enough I will replay it on the highest difficulty. I play games for the experience.
Yep my thoughts exactly!

Experience is the primary focus for my gaming wants and if that experience is good enough to warrant me replaying on a higher difficulty setting - kudos to the developers :)
