Games like Dishonored are always one-throughs, and are never known for their length or replayability.
Well, no. The game is like deus ex/ hitman. Player choice of how to do the level, so i would say there is plenty replay value there :)

XCOM.

The original is one of my top five games.

There are two ultimate strategy games of all time. One is Civilization. The other is X-COM. The house that brought us one is now bringing us the other. I have confidence that Firaxis will do a great job.

My brother-in-law, a fellow fan of the original game, says the demo is pure gold. Everything I have heard from other places has been positive.

I'm still not actually sure what Dishonored is. I see the ads, it looks like Half-Life 2 with bits of Skyrim and Assassin's Creed thrown in? If done right, that could lead to greatness beyond measure. If done wrong, it could be a steaming dog turd.

I'm probably going to get both (my birthday is the 9th so there's a chance I may get one or both as a gift. YAY!) but if I had to choose one, I'd say dishonored. Something about the massive amount of freedom is AWESOME!

Can't vote - got both so I'm locked into playing both of them.

Glad to see that both are just about neck and neck.

I was disinterested in XCOM because I thought it would be like the last Area 51 (lame). Soon as I saw it was more like it's predessor (which I never played) I opened up a bit and leaned towards buying it.

~Then I saw I could get Civ 5 for free if I preorder it, so it's a done deal now. 50$ for both games is a total bargain, and both will give me 100's of hours worth of play a piece.

Dishonered looks great and it's made by the studio that created Dark Messiah of Might and Magic so gameplay should be good aswell.

XCOM has a demo so you may have some idea what to expect, though I'm more excited about XCOM despite the stupid tutorial mission.
If you like TB tactics then XCOM is probably a must-have. There's so little coming out lately and nothing with anywhere near a medium budget.

Ultimately though, waiting for the release and real reviews and player feedback is the safest bet.
While XCOM offers some incentive for a pre-order as you get Civilization 5 and some minor XCOM DLC to go with the game, Dishonered only has a crapload of different kinds of pre-order DLCs, one for every major US outlet, all of which will therefor be trivial stuff, so you might aswell wait.
If you wait long enough there may even be a Dishonered GOTY version with all the little content cuts included.

XCOM

1) It's a kind of game I like, and wish there were more of.
2) The people who make it seem to genuinely enjoy it and want others to as well
3) As a PS3 owner I have zero faith that dishonored won't be a horrid, buggy, unsupported POS port from my good friends at bethesda.
A lot of people seem to be making this mistake. Dishonored aint being made by bethesda, only published.
This is the place where publishing might actually have an effect though. Publishers influence the release date and when a game goes gold, heck when they published New Vegas, they actually decided that they were going to do the QA on it.

... I hope it's not going to turn out like that, Dishonoured looks sweet. I'm confused why reviews aren't out for these games yet though, they normally hit around this sort of time if the publisher doesn't ban pre-release reviews right? And I don't understand why they'd put a stop on what looks like might become one of the most talks about games of the year.

...still, lots of silent thumbs up, so hopefully it's just a bad decisions

Alright, both come out next Tuesday. I'm getting both eventually, but I'd rather just get one for now. I'm completely torn. I'm totally psyched for both, but they're so different it's hard to tell which one I'd be happier buying first.

If you had to choose (most of you probably do), which one would you pick? Which one do you think will be worth the $60?
Which platform are you going to be playing them on? There is a demo on Steam for X-COM: Enemy Unknown.

If you are going to play them on a console I suggest waiting to do a day one buy and rent them instead. That way you can play both equally and decide which one you want to purchase first.

Actually XCOM DID get a review.

Game Informer gave it a 95.
I'm so glad! But that makes things even more confusing, did Game Informer pay for exclusivity rights? =D Maybe they figured they could just risk breaking NDA or something

Naw, a bunch of sites got review code a week or two ago. The first reviews are popping up now, and there'll likely be more early next week, as the game's release draws near.

XCom, no question. Dishonoured sounds fun, and I'll probably pick it up. Eventually.

But XCom was a pre-order (the first one I've pre-ordered in 2-3 years!), and I've already pre-loaded it and put in a couple of days leave, so when it releases Thursday morning, I'll be all over it!

Yeah, call me sad or whatever, but if it even vaguely lives up to the gameplay video's I've seen, this is EASILY my Game of the Year.

I find your poll woefully lacking in the "both" department.

I never played Xcom, and it's not really my style. It just seems kind of boring from what I've seen of it.

Dishonored, however, looks like it has a lot of potential. Also, I like to support new IPs. One of the problems with the industry right now is that no one is willing to take a risk on something new and interesting.

I'm getting XCOM. It's a bubble of brain-busting, turn-based stragedy in the sea of mindless action. I have never played this type of game before, the closest probably being Advance Wars. Dishonoured looks like it plays like Oblivion, which always felt a little off; and XCOM has a multiplayer, which would die out if I leave it too late.
I could possibly enjoy the plot of Dishonoured.

I really want Dishonored but I am on the fence. I already have the money in my Steam wallet for it, but I just dont know if its going to be good. There are no reviews out for it yet either...
As a customer and fan of Arkane Studios, I can safely say without a doubt that this game, at its worse, would still be a good game.

But it won't be, it'll be great :)

I'm a huge strategy fan but I've always found myself leaning towards the RTS than TBS (even though Civ 2 is still in my top 3 strategy games) and I've never heard of XCom till a few months ago.

Can't wait to stab me some corrupt dystopian autocrats.
