What the hell is with Disney and singing? It seems that pretty much everything they touch has to be some sort of amalgamation of a movie and a musical. All their films seem to be set in some crazy world where people don't think it the least bit odd when someone breaks into song and dance for no apparent reason like they're suffering from some sort of a cross between Tourette's and mental illness. I'd welcome the day when someone goes to start a solo and someone else jumps in and shuts them the hell up, kinda like they did with Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

I'd laugh if people broke out into song during Tron Legacy.

Or maybe it would be fine, like singing in all the other Disney movies.

It's kind of dumb, but it fits the tone of most of their movies. I've yet to watch one of their movies and gone "this song is really out of place here," so I don't really mind.

But yes, people interrupting songs is always funny.

It's just Disney's thing.
Just what they do.

I like their musicals though so I don't complain.

They're musicals. Singing is kind of a requirement for musicals. Do you complain about it on Broadway, too?

Well I love some of the Disney songs, especially the ones in The Lion King (refer to one of my badges) so I'm not really complaining.

Disney movies are primarily made for kids. Watching anything made for kids requires one to just suspend their disbelief and enjoy it. Do you honestly expect anything starring an anthropomorphic mouse to be realistic in any way? Plus, I don't know anyone who just flat-out doesn't like music, and Disney usually does a good job with it. They're just coming back with better stuff now too, after a "down" decade (but you don't get much better than Disney in the '90s), so I say they should just keep making quality stuff, music or not.

Nope. Seen both Cats and Jesus Christ Super Star, but I went there for a musical, if I had gone there for a musical and got a movie, I'd be a touch upset.

You saw two sung-through musicals.

There are other kinds of musicals which feature songs, rather than are stories told in song.

Disney films are primarily musicals.

Why would you go to an animated Disney movie and not expect a musical? It's kind of what they do.

that's sorta their thing. At least when it come to animated movies. I can't really imagine an Animated Disney flick without any songs in it.

Whilst I intensely dislike High school musical you cannot deny that a lot of the songs sung in older Disney films like The hunchback of Notre Dame, Lion king, Aladdin etc are classics. Case in point:

I am sorry but this song was epic.

Exactly, I love Disney songs and films. I was brought up with Disney movies so I still know the words to "A Whole New World","Under the Sea" and of course:

Why would you want to take all of the joy and magic out of Disney?

Y'know, I kind of find it amusing that such a comment comes with that username...

Anyway, quiz time:

What was Disney's first feature length production?
How many songs did it have?
How much money has it made thus far?
What won Walt Disney the Academy Honourary Award 1938?

Go do the maths.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, pretty much a case of. And note... it still ain't broke.

I do like the singing in the Disney movies. I like musicals, but we live in a time where those are reserved for the stage, Disney films and Bali-wood. It was my hopes that with the popularity of shows like Glee, American Idol and The Voice, that musicals might make a bit of a comeback, but I think we define cinema in a different way these days. It isn't really "going to the theater" the way it once was.

So, luckily, I live in NY, and I can see musicals on Broadway, and not just wait for some animated animals to break into song!

If Alan Menken isn't involved then, yes; Disney should lay off the songs.

And in the good Disney movies the songs don't feel forced or out of place. That's what makes them good.

I've always hated Disney movies because of the singing. But that's probably because they're children's movies, and therefore they get dubbed, which is bad enough in it's own right. Dubbed singing... So horrible...
