We all know what DLC is here, If you don't get out of my thread, and on the xbox it costs a fair amount to buy the game, then all the DLC (if you want the new maps and stuff)
So, riddle me this: is DLC too much or am i just being a skint student?

Some are, some aren't. It depends on how much you enjoy it, or the game.

I don't have much of an issue with it. After all, content gets locked many months before a game's release. And instead of firing a bunch of people, you can have them work on DLC.

DLC isn't too much most of the time. I think 800MS points for an add-on pack for a game like Fallout is fair enough. However 1200MS points is way too much for a small map packs for a CoD game. Most people charge a fair amount for their products, however some overstep the mark.

I'm really just curious as to whether the Shivering Isles is worth 2400MS points.

Depends on the DLC. I always think Map Packs are overpriced, especially the COD ones but they now they can get away with it. Otherwise things like the Fallout DLC normally offer pretty good value for money.

Cheaper way to get Shivering Isles is normally to get a game of the year edition for Obliveon, its about £10 now depending were you get it, gives you the rest of the DLC, and as its installed rather than downlaoded you can share it with your mates aswell, and you get another copy of Obliveon aswell. Shivering Isles is pretty long aswell, so its a good deal, if a bit expensive for 2400 MS on its own.

As all have said already; it depends on the DLC.
A lot out there are worthless shit just made for bringing in easy cash, but some are worth the money. I don't buy DLC myself, but I was very pleased with Borderlands Island of Dr.Ned and Secret Armory.

2400MS points is £20.
I got the oblivion GOTY (XBOX) for £20.
This contained Oblivion, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine.

In short, you can get it cheaper than XBL, and the GOTY has unlimited installs so you can share it.

There's too much DLC (BioWare seem to be getting terrible for it).

It never feels like "here's more content", it just feels like "we didn't have time, you can have it for £10".

Oh, and stuff like the Shivering Isles and Undead Nightmare are expansion packs - people seem to have forgotten that phrase entirely, when you really shouldn't be confusing those with actual DLC.

It really depends on the game. The Black Ops map pack was the same price as the BFBC:2 Vietnam expansion although the latter was much more value for money IMO.

Most DLC seems like this should have been in the game from the start but instead we will change you $10 for it.

It's an easy way to exploit gamers. Since publishers just love exploiting gamers for money you're going to be seeing a lot more DLC in the future.

It's not a question of whether or how I should get it, it's a question of is it worth what they're charging for it over XBL?

The fact that DLC doesn't go down in price over time is bullshit. If a game goes down to 20$ the DLC should go down as well. WTF, I'm going to buy a new game for 20 bucks and spend another 20 getting 3 mini missions? Bullshit.

I think the only bad dlc is the day one dlc (Dragon Age) or the dlc that is severely overpriced compared to what you actually receive (Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops) Other than that dlc is pretty much just a way for developers to make additions to the game that they didn't think of or had time for during the original production... well it used to be that way, now most devs/publishers just see it as easy money, I see so much effort wasted piddling out a bunch of crap excuses for dlc that could have been spent on a new ip or a sequel, or new content that's actually good. I can remember back when dlc would become free after about a month, some of which I actually paid for because it seemed genuinely worth the price tag.

Some DLC just isn't worth it. I remember when alternative costumes were unlocked via game-play, not through paying x amount of money for 5 or 6 costumes. However content that expands a game like extra characters and extra single or multilayer content can be worth the extra so long as time and care has been taken into it and it's not just unlocking something that's already on the disc.

It feels like many games are offering DLC that used to be stuff you'd get with the game normally, I'm all for supporting the developer through extra items but sometimes they don't have take the biscuit.

There are 2 types of DLCs:

The Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3 kind, which you are happy to pay and spend hours with.

And the Capcom kind, which pretty much play you a fool. New chars and costumes even AFTER Super Street Fighter IV is out? Bite me, bite me, bite me. I still haven't bought neither SSFIV nor the MW2 maps.
