The DLC that gives you content already on the disc is bad. $15 map packs are bad.

I like the DLCs that simply expand on the existing game.

DLC's should be reserved for actual expansion storylines like dead money. Hacking characters out of the storyline and offering a shiny gun and armour is just insulting.

Yes, some of it is rip like the black color dye that was in Fable 3. It is literally a color how could you not add it, but as I remember it was around a dollar maybe idk I was more sad I bought Fable 3.

Most DLC costs around seven to ten dollars nowadays, which constitutes at least ten percent of the price of a full game here in Canada. Considering that almost no DLC adds 10% more content, I'd say it's overpriced.

Depends on the DLC. I think having to spend 15 dollars for 2 new characters and 4 new costumes in MvC3 is fucking outrageous. But, you know, I bought them because I play that game every day.
I personally find extra characters to be worth it, though Jill is hard as hell to use well, but five dollars for six ugly costumes? I took one look at them online and thought, 'well, looks like capcom are as bad as people say they are for dlc.'

Ok, looking at it again, at least they tried to appeal to fans. Ryu from street fighter 1. Iron man as Iron patriot... Not a costume I'm big on, but I'm sure that some people do.

But its all fits in a niche. I don't like dante's new costume, except someone who has played DMC might. I don't know. For a little less than a dollar a costume it doesn't seem horrible, except that I have to buy all the costumes I don't want along with the few that I do want.

I like dlc in and of itself, but yeah, its being abused. I still haven't bought the halo reach map packs.

DLC isn't too much most of the time. I think 800MS points for an add-on pack for a game like Fallout is fair enough. However 1200MS points is way too much for a small map packs for a CoD game. Most people charge a fair amount for their products, however some overstep the mark.

I'm really just curious as to whether the Shivering Isles is worth 2400MS points.

Yea it was. Most companies probably would have added a bit more and sold it as a stand alone game.

Good DLC is worth the money.
I love all the Fallout and ME2 DLC, anything that let's me play more fallout or ME2 is great in my book! Map packs and bullshit like that, can go and die quietly in a corner somewhere along with its developer.

I'm not sure if I'd say Shivering Ilses is worth 2400 MS points, but it is a cool and substantial addon, can't say much more without spoiling the story.

In all honesty, I think significant add-ons like the mission packs for Fallout 3 are ok, but tiny little things like new weapons or character skins, etc should just be free. Significant and well-made DLC is one thing, but selling a zillion small pointless additions that should just be free with the game is another.

i say most of it is, especially when its obvious that the dlc should have been in the game already, like when they release a game and a week later anounce a map pack or something

or 2 words.... Horse Armour

DLC is really expensive for Civ V. $5 for a faction doesn't sound bad, until you realize there's 3-4 of them to buy. Suddenly it's 17 for 4. That's not a very good deal when you take into account that it's just the faction and I think a scenario. No wonders, and the improvements are all in free patches.

Wait, I just defeated my own argument, didn't I? Dammit, now I want Polynesia.

I really don't know, to be honest. There's a lot of DLC, and Sturgeon is oh so right.

Shivering Isles added at least 40 hours to the game. And that's not taking into account that they were very fun hours, with an awesome bearded NPC to give you quests. A lot of the quests (including one in the main storyline) had two endings. One in the main quest actually had about 4 ways to complete. And you got a zombie dog.

Personally I have never found DLC to be worth what they charge for it. The only DLC I have are the ones that have come bundled with GOTY editions (eg Fallout 3). GOTY editions are great value for money because you get a lot of extra content and they usually cost the same or less than the original game did.

However, I don't think they would be worth the price of the game plus all the indivisual DLC prices. Some games seem to have reasonably priced DLC (like under £5), but I haven't ever been interested enough to buy it. If it cost more than that it's almost certainly going to feel overpriced to me.

I hear ya. It's a fun throwback/fan-service for the costumes, though. Ryu from SF1, Iron Patriot, Dante's costume is actually his father, Sparda; and then you get civil war Captain America. I wasn't too angry with that. I was more angry with Jill and Shuma. Jill is basically X-23 and Shuma is... well, Shuma. He sucks. 10 dollars for another Wolverine and fucking Shuma. Awesome.
I don't know, Shuma had some nice comboes when I played against him online, and for the people who liked him in MVC2 its a bit of a treat. I originally tried to compare jill to X-23, but I think she's completely different. Her darn teleporting I find to be strange, but interesting (I don't use wesker, so I don't know how he does his) I mean, attacking and being forced into that state is rather odd, but can lead to some really nice moves. I find X to be a lot easier to use in any situation while Jill fits in only a few unless you REALLY know how to use her. Her profile picture makes me think of penny arcade... but if they tried to make a character ugly. I don't know. I'm both happy and really really disapointed since I used her a lot in mvc2.

Anyway, yeah, I don't understand the whole DLC deal with the Maw. I have stayed away from it because it looks a little expensive for its cost, but on top of that it has important story bits left out and expected to be purchased as DLC. It looks good but has kept me away.

Depends on the DLC.

I think EA's Project Ten Dollar isn't a bad idea. It encourages buying new rather than used, and at least with the Dragon Age games, the DLC is enjoyable, but hardly necessary. If you do buy used and don't want to buy the (overpriced if you bought used) DLC, you don't miss out on anything in the main game.

I enjoy DLC that adds to the game experience, or adds levels that couldn't make it out at release (AC2's Bonfire of the Vanities, though I haven't grabbed it yet). Things like costume packs from LBP just aren't worth it for me.

I think it boils down to a very simple formula: If the DLC looks like something you would enjoy, and you feel it's worth the price, then buy it. If it doesn't, then don't.

Im planning on buying "Lair of the Shadow Broker" soon as well as "Arrival" because Admiral Hackett is the shit :D

But for ten bucks? Definitely worth it. Fifteen for five extra maps? No thanks.

It's not a question of whether or how I should get it, it's a question of is it worth what they're charging for it over XBL?
No it's not worth it,purely for the fact that they're still charging 2400msp(which is about ?30)for an expansion that's 4 years old.As several others have pointed out you can buy the GOTY edition brand new for around half that price or less so Shivering Isles on XBL is a rip-off
