I buy the DlC if i think the content is worth the price. For example fuck the call of duty map packs. I love the game but 15 dollars for 5 new maps hell no. On the other hand i just paid 7 dollars for the dead space 2 DLC, when it really only offers an extra 2 hrs of gameplay, because i love the series so much. I plan on buying the new Mass Effect 2 DlC that is coming out in a week. Fall out DLC is always awesome cause it adds at least 4+ hours of gameplay. It just all depends on the game and if the developer actually wants to expand the experience or just simply get money.

The key word here is want. Not that you "need" any game but, either way, you can play most games and enjoy them perfectly fine without any DLC. Sure it's an extra cost that isn't always worth it, but it's still just an extra above and beyond the full game.

As others have said, I think the validity of the given cost is dependent on the DLC itself. Truthfully, I don't think most DLC is worth it's cost even for games I love.. but I'm a cheap bastard who spends too much time pondering the value of things. I'll often pass on something if I don't think it's worth my money.

We all know what DLC is here, If you don't get out of my thread, and on the xbox it costs a fair amount to buy the game, then all the DLC (if you want the new maps and stuff)
So, riddle me this: is DLC too much or am i just being a skint student?
Its only a fair amount on xbox?

lol

No, its fine as long as its good content. i.e, shadowbroker for mass effect 2 and then the undead nightmare for rd:r

EDIT: i also think bad company 2: vietnam was really good
Was shadow broker worth it? I bought the first DLC and throughly enjoyed it but never really heard much about shadow broker so was never convinced to buy it...

I voted 'yes' because I don't think I've ever bought DLC that was undersized and uninteresting.

Games (that I've played) I think have done DLC well:

Fallout 3/New Vegas
Mass Effect 2
Oblivion
Borderlands
Left 4 Dead/Left 4 Dead 2

DLC isn't too much most of the time. I think 800MS points for an add-on pack for a game like Fallout is fair enough. However 1200MS points is way too much for a small map packs for a CoD game. Most people charge a fair amount for their products, however some overstep the mark.

I'm really just curious as to whether the Shivering Isles is worth 2400MS points.
As pricey as that is I would definatly say its worth it. Tis a pretty good DLC. Although from reading some of the other posts there are cheaper ways like buying a game of the editiion or something.

The good old non-answer "It depends" applies here. Some DLC is good value, but some is taking the piss. You always see new "Railworks 2" DLC on Steam. It's about £20 for a station and between £10 and £30 for a new train. The game itself costs only £20, but the DLC adds up to hundreds.

Generally, I'd say yes. Some do add a fair amount of content for the price, such as Shivering Isles, whereas some are just not worth it. Case in point are multiplayer maps. I can understand if you play multiplayer a lot you will likely get hours out of them, but I still think they are too much. Call of Duty I find is the worst, because it's the only game that can get away with selling for RRP of £44.99 and charge 1200 points for 5 maps, 2 of which are old ones.

i played it on the ps3 version, so i never actually payed for it, but it was a pretty long mission, and it was interesting

Game of the Year editions. Fallout 3, you get 50 dollars worth of DLC and the game for 50 bucks. So basically you get the game for free. If you didn't buy the DLC as it was released, it's definitely the way to go. Dragon Age Origins has an even sillier Ultimate edition which includes a 40 dollar expansion pack. I'm sure Mass Effect 2 will have an Ultimate Pack not long after Arrival is released. I'm on the fence about whether to buy New Vegas DLC as it arrives (like I did with Mass Effect 2) or wait for a GotY pack (which I'm sure will come eventually as it's in vogue.

As for Shivering Isles, I have the game of the year pack (which sadly only includes SI and knights of the nine, not the various stronghold packs or horse armor), but it was only 40 dollars. So with a 30 dollar expansion like Shivering Isles, and a 10 dollar pack like knights of the nine, the game is free. So if you don't have either of those DLCs and want them, just pick up the Game of the Year edition, and either sell your copy of oblivion/whatever else, or give it to a friend or whatever.
