The new Extra Credits got me to thinking about my opinions on Other M, and I realized; I barely have any. I played the game, nearly clawed my eyes out, and subsequently dismissed it from my own personal universe. However, this is not a topic about opinions on games, my question is simple. Do you ignore bad games? Whether they be bad gameplay or storywise. A little clarification, In my mind, there was never an "Other M", it was not canon and that never happened in the Metroid universe. Do you do something similar? Or do you accept the bad with the good?

I'm a big fan of Ace Attorney, and whatever the word of god is, I'm happier assuming Apollo Justice didn't happen. I'm sure the case is true for plenty of other story iterations. There have even been occasions where the producers simply decide a certain version of events just didn't happen, like in Terminator.

I don't know WHAT you're talking about.

On a completely unrelated note, there are only 3 Spyro games, and there will only EVER be 3 Spyro games.

Likewise almost to the dot. I still really enjoyed the game because I love the series but as a game it's just not as strong as the previous ones.

Like quite a few fans of FO1-2, the change in writing style in FO3 was jarring (3Dog: I use words to fight the good fight. Wanderer [intelligence option]: 'You fight the good fight using your words'? Me: (sigh...)). Yet I can't really erase it from canon, even though it's by a different writing team. Fortunately they were good enough to allow the FO1-2 lore to be continued by the company founded by the FO2 developers, in FO:NV, so it made allowance for it, with the east coast being done by Bethesda, and the west coast lore staying in the hands of the original developers.

Bad canon is in the eye of the beholder...

So, "bad" or not...it's still fucking canon.

Other M? I thought that was cancelled in pre-production. Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was. Very sure.

Now now, here-in lies the trick. Other M was cannon, but in an alternate universe where Samus was a complete and total pussy. There, now we can dispense with the gnashing of teeth and the wails of despair. A new company can be brought in to produce the actual universes cannon and we can look askance at this strange curio which never was. Much in the same vein as Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.

It wasn't really about gameplay...
If you're thinking of it in terms of the universe, I don't like the decision that Phoenix Wright got disbarred for being an idiot with evidence (especially since similar idiocy happened all the time in previous games) and then turned into a jackass hellbent solely on personal revenge. Also don't like that Ema went from being a cute, kind little kid to a dismissive jerk who doesn't like helping defense attorneys. Honestly, my biggest issues are that the previous characters, and many of the newly introduced characters, are just plain mean a lot of the time even when the creators didn't realize they were. Introduce the kids to their previously-unknown mother, to bring warmth to them in the realization that they have family? NOPE.AVI.

In my opinion, if you're a fan of something you have to at least accept all of it. You can go "well X wasn't as good as y", but if you start going "well X wasn't as good as y so clearly it does not exist" you're just trying too hard to justify to yourself (and others) why you still like a series.

I think we all do that to a certain extent. I mean, where do the three Panasonic Zelda games fit into that timeline?

As for me personally, I don't think I've had the luxury to discredit a game from a series since there really isn't an entire series I've been able to play through from game one to it's latest rendition. I guess I could say that the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games and the Pokemon Ranger Games don't count as being in the same universe as the traditional Pokemon games but that's about as far as I can feasibly go.

Well, I don't discount games I dislike in a series. I mean, I didn't like FF12 but it's not like I pretend it didn't exist. I don't recall any one game that has made me wish it didn't exist in a series.

I may dislike a game for one reason or another, but it usually has things I still admire if it really is a good series. Like I didn't like FF12's battle system, but I admired the graphics and the style as much as I could.

I guess that sorta doesn't count since it's not really all the same continuity but the same thing appplies there.

Probably a better thing to look at would be the Star Wars movies for me. I LOVED the classic ones, and hell I still like the newer ones, but yeah, there are definitely things wrong with them, and somethings do weaken the classic ones. I guess, in taht case, I would ignore them in canon, but only if it adversely affects another part of the series.

I thought it was a shame that Team Silent broke up, so now we won't see any current generation Silent Hill games. But it was fun while it lasted.

I never had much of an opinion because I never played it, but since I played both metroid: Fusion, and Super Metroid, I would probably go with no, I think it contributes to the backstory, Plus after playing metroid fusion I would like to learn more about Adam.
