Devil may cry 2 is the only real time I've felt like denying a game its place in a series, but nowadays i'll accept it as long as it is set at the end of the series. It would make the transition between Dante's change in personality make abit more sense if they just made a new entry into the series whether it was a comic or an animation that tied it into the series better. However thank you DMC reboot for kicking that notion in the dick....

In summary no I haven't played a game yet that I haven't called canon but from what I've heard of Metroid other M, I would deny it to.

What CD-i Zelda games?
There is no such thing!

What are you talking about... what is this prequel trilogy you mention, Star wars only has 3 movies.
Dragonball....GT? never heard of it.
what's this you say? a fourth Indiana Jones? with Shia Labuff in it?Preposterous! I would've heard of such a thing...you sir are a madman! lol

by the way Dragonball GT was a half decent one-saga sequal series consisting ONLY of the Shadow dragon saga and NOTHING ELSE! lol

but seriously most of the stuff I hate normally is non-canon anyway, like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, (at least I assume that's non=canon)

I'm a big fan of Ace Attorney, and whatever the word of god is, I'm happier assuming Apollo Justice didn't happen. I'm sure the case is true for plenty of other story iterations. There have even been occasions where the producers simply decide a certain version of events just didn't happen, like in Terminator.
Likewise almost to the dot. I still really enjoyed the game because I love the series but as a game it's just not as strong as the previous ones.
It wasn't really about gameplay...
If you're thinking of it in terms of the universe, I don't like the decision that Phoenix Wright got disbarred for being an idiot with evidence (especially since similar idiocy happened all the time in previous games) and then turned into a jackass hellbent solely on personal revenge. Also don't like that Ema went from being a cute, kind little kid to a dismissive jerk who doesn't like helping defense attorneys. Honestly, my biggest issues are that the previous characters, and many of the newly introduced characters, are just plain mean a lot of the time even when the creators didn't realize they were. Introduce the kids to their previously-unknown mother, to bring warmth to them in the realization that they have family? NOPE.AVI.
That's what I was getting at myself. I still enjoyed the game quite a bit though. But I don't think of the game much, which I suppose makes the OP relevant.

No, that's fucking retarded. It's not my place to decide what's canon and what isn't. That's the job of whoever created the damn thing, or in his/her absence, whoever's left in creative control of it; which isn't me and it sure as hell isn't you (good thing too).

Yes they exist.
You know what sorts of people ignore whatever canon doesn't please them? The types of people who like argue that their Yaoi and Yuri pairings are canon, you know:
"Sora and Riku makes SO much more sense if you actually pay attention to the hints in the dialogue. Kairi is just a jealous *****."
Do you want to be on the same level as them?

If you are going to take the story/background/continuity of games that you love seriously, you have to be willing to take the good with the bad.

I can disregard anything I don't like. I don't have to push my views on anyone, I just magically "forget" the shitty parts of things I like. Midichlorians? Never heard of them.

I don't know WHAT you're talking about.

On a completely unrelated note, there are only 3 Spyro games, and there will only EVER be 3 Spyro games.
I know some people who wouldn't include Year of the Dragon for some reason. It was the game that got me started on the series.

I prefer it when games write themselves out of cannon. Like Sonic 2006, a game so bad it ends with the characters going back in time so it never happens.

There was no terminator movies after Terminator 3.

There were no prequels to Star Wars.

There was only one Matrix movie.

There was no current gen Perfect Dark game.

There are only 2 1/2 X-Com games (Real-time in Apocalypse? Surely you jest)
There is no 3rd Jagged Alliance game currently in development.
It's a damn shame the Ultima series finished with Pagan.

Though, on the lighter side of this, I must say that I'm enjoying FF X-2 so much I'm afraid that playing X will ruin it.

... I should start running now, yes?

Why not? The MAKERS of Devil May Cry deny the second game, oweing to how much suck and crap it was. If the Word Of God says it, I don't see the ever-loving problem here.

Yeah, I do that with anything serial I like which has weak sequels or goes the wrong direction. But I know the difference between Canon (any official part of a series) and Fanon (what I consider "canon", which may exclude some official installments and include some non-official installments or concepts).

E.g. Fallout 3 is canonically a sequel to FO1 and FO2, as was BOS, but I consider neither to be a part of the same series. I consider there to be three Fallout series: FO1/FO2/"Van Buren", BOS, and FO3/New Vegas. There are connections between FO1/FO2 and BOS as well as between FO1/FO2 and FO3, but I do not accept Bethesda's claim FO3 is a sequel to FO2 and is in the same universe.

Well then, what you have there is a variance in the mileage of your opinion from mine.

You're not much of a Mac fan then, are ya?

That is to say that I'm not commenting on said existence of said game, or any potenital enjoyment I might have gained from said non-existent game...

Over on TV Tropes, we call it "Fanon Discontinuity." I do occasionally engage it in, myself, though I'm more often of the opinion of "if the author thinks it, it's probably true."

There's a lot more leeway when there are multiple authors involved.

Ya its a damned shame that they never tried to improve upon the glory of Master of Orion 2. Loved that game, still have it thanks to GoG. It saddens me there'll never be a 3rd

Just like there was never a Red Alert 3 or Command and Conquer 4. I really wanted to see what happened to Kane and the Brotherhood

Hell, there were never command and conquer 2 or 3, let alone 4.
