I am going to make kind of a big leap here, assuming that at least a significant percentage of you are geeks of various types(video game geeks, anime geeks, tabletop geeks). Then again, The Escapist is first and foremost a website about video games. So maybe it's not that big a leap after all.
I ask you this, then: when choosing a romantic partner(not necessarily for a lifelong commitment, just for a relationship that is more then a one nighter), is it important to you that the partner be a "geek" like you?
AKA do you dig gamer chicks?
Would you refuse to date someone just because she/he isn't a geek? What if she/he actively hates the object of your geekdom(she won't leave you because you play video games, but she also won't hesitate to tell you that she thinks it's stupid and childish and stuff)?
Seriously, this interests me.
Besides, I need something to do while StarCraft 2 downloads. I might as well open a poll on the Escapist.

Well I'd say that I am only part geek anyway, so it doesn't really bother me what sort of person they are, as long as it's fun.

It doesn't particularly matter to me, but I'd prefer someone with other hobbies. I don't want to date myself.

Well, dorky is sexy to me, and if my man aint a gamer, well, then he would be an oxymoron. If I cant play games with him, then I dont want him.

I play co-op games with my guy and we collect geeky things. So Yes! But if all someone wants to do is get absorbed in games then no. Outdoor activities are important. So is having a lot of friends, I know some geeks don't.

It'd be a plus if I could find someone who shares my hobbies. But, would I turn down those who don't?

Nope.

I'd prefer someone with the same general interests, but I don't have anything against non-geeks.
As long as they do SOMETHING other than work and outdoorsy nonsense, I'm sure we'd get along to some degree.

Still prefer geeks, though.

Not really.
My ex-girlfriend wasn't one, but my current girlfriend is only partly one in that she plays games quite casually.
So no, it doesn't matter.

Both types of girl have their pros and cons.

Non-geeks tend to draw me more to the side of myself that I'm more comfortable with, the man's-man, beer-commercial, I-was-a-high-school jock guy. They tend to be great mates...but they COMPLETELY fail to understand my introversion, my need for personal space, and my penchant for getting wrapped up in projects that they don't understand.

I was married to a geek for five years. Her biggest problem was that she was ALWAYS overthinking things and had no concept at all of living in the moment...which, interestingly, only got worse when she started playing World of Warcraft. Science-y girls have a very unfortunate habit of being way too regimented for their own good in ways I don't necessarily like.

I'm more likely to say "we have nothing in common" to a geek girl than a non-geek. Mind you, if she geeks out on the same things I do (sports minutiae, cooking/food science, Mythbusters, and city-building games) that's a recipe for my perfect girl, so really your mileage (and mine) may vary.

Well consider video games and anime to be just another one of my "areas of expertise", so in other words, no.

Myself, I voted "Usually geeks". It's not like I have a real problem with non geeks, I have had non geek girlfriends, but still, the vast majority of girlfriends I had at the very least a little geeky.
Plus, you have never seen sexy until you have seen your girlfriend playing Dead Space wearing nothing but her underwear, her cute glasses and a pair of fake cat ears.
Yes, I am that pathetic, but it's still a memory I am going to keep for a long time.

I don't get many dates seeing as I'm a geek, but usually they are with other geeks because we have things in common.

Geeky and nongeeky both appeal to me. As long as these things do not happen.

I tend to (and at the moment, have) radiated towards the geeky ladies. I feel it's for no other reason than most of the things I like (apart from music and Jiu Jitsu) are geek related, so in order for us to have some things in common, she should be a little bit geeky.

I'm a geek, I like geeky things - Like geeky ladies =P

I personally like both, though I married someone who is generally not geeky. That said, over time I have corrupted her with Mass Effect, X-Files, Firefly, and other random sci-fi. She admits to always being sort of a "geek sympathizer" so to speak, but there's no doubt that I've only made it worse.

Anyway, I appreciate a sweet ass good personality, regardless of your interests/hobbies, so geeks and non-geeks alike are welcome.

I find geekdom pretty attractive. Not that I consciously say "No, I am not going to crush on you because you are not a fellow geek," of course, but it seems most of the guys I end up having the hots for are geeks in some way, shape, or form.

It helps that most everyone I hang out with is a geek of some sort.
