I've been here awhile now and I don't think I have a single friend on here. I generally tend to be pretty nice and polite to everyone I meet nowadays. So do you guys even use this friend list thing?

I have some people on it . But only one person that i communicate with . Mainly because we discovered we liked fighting games , and play online on the same platform . He's better at anime fighters , i'm better at 2D non-anime fighters . Fun times nonetheless.

Other than that , people have added me , mostly due to me saying either funny ( rare ) or intelligent ( rarer )in a thread . But that's all . I really should stop accepting invites when that happens.

Being nice really isn't enough. Hardly is. Having constant conversations with the same people across different websites and softwares is enough to add someone to your friend's list. Being around doesn't.

Generally.

I don't keep tabs on friends stuff, anyway. Half of my online posse doesn't use the Escapist.

Yes, more or less. I added all of the regulars that post in my game thread... anyone with whom I ever had a nice flowy conversation with... anyone who ever dedicated lots of their time in replying smartly and earnestly in an advice thread... anyone who blatantly shares my tastes in whatever... I don't do much with the list, it's just a way of carrying around friendly people with you. "Niceness" alone may be lost on most people though.

Only to make it easier to stalk people. I accept friend requests after having a back and forth with the person in question. Or if their name and avatar are really hilarious, then I have to friend them.

The people on my friends list are there only because they added me as a friend first.

I don't know why they added me as a friend, and I really don't see the point behind it.

No, not really worth it. There are a couple people that I would consider adding if I ever got the willpower to do it. The only person who has friended me has posted twice and one is a very sexist remark. I didn't add him.

I used it much more extensively before I chose ponychat as my regular haunt here on the Escapist.

I'll still add someone if I've grown really attached to them, but that doesn't seem to happen that much anymore.

(Since I mainly speak to people in ponychat, and I know everyone there anyway..)

The thread's and the poll's question are not the same.
I don't use the friends list in the sense of talking to anybody on there any more or less than anybody else. And I don't add anybody of my own initiative. But if somebody adds me, I "befriend" them back.
I don't think that really counts as "using" the thing, though.

Very rarely I add them, or get added, but I do. There hasn't been any practical application to it so far, except on the few RPG boards I used to post on.

This. After that, what am I supposed to do with it exactly? Its not like I initiated the 'friending' and I'm pretty sure it was because that person kept quoting me over and over again in the same thread... for reasons. Oh, well, its not like its hurting me either.

I add people I enjoy talking to on a regular basis or some people who I've just interacted with on the forums, if I think they seem pretty cool or I agree with their opinions.

Sometimes I forget about it though and just add people back when they add me.

Naw. Don't think I've ever added someone but if someone shoots me an invite I'll generally accept it.

No, never added anyone. Got two people in my friend list; one who I mocked a bit, but he mistook it for a compliment somehow, and one guy who added everyone in a thread for... reasons(think it was a thread like this one).

I've added people I talk to pretty regularly and people I get along with. I also usually accept and friend back people who have friended me. Lately I've been in the usergroups more often than the forums though.

Only people that I talk to on a fairly regular basis and enjoy doing so.

I'm kinda terrible about it since I hardly go and friend someone and I'm normally the one to receive requests more than anything else. Then again, I don't receive much of them anymore since I'm mainly in the Brovengers usergroup these days.

Yeah.

It doesn't actually do anything though. I just use it as a way of saying, "Hey, I think you're alright."
