I add friendly and notable people to my friend list.
Admit it, you mostly just try to add people that you think are cats.

Not really.
I have the same idea with every friends list on a website. If someone adds me and seems like a cool guy/gal, then I add back. But I only have maybe 5-7 on my friends list here. I think the better way to make "good friends" on this website at least is to join user groups, there being active will certainly make a few friends.

I've been friended by a number of folks and sent out a couple myself.
I'm terrible at keeping up with people though. : (
I forget how refreshing it can be to speak candidly with a stranger.

No.

I feel like the fun of posting on forums is to communicate with random people - as soon as you start picking favourites that goes away a bit (obviously plenty of people do both, that's just my personal way of looking at it).

I collect Legacy of Kain fans. So far I have only seen 2 as I mainly go by avatars and comments.

Same sort of boat, just added a couple recently. I feel it's a bit pre-sumptuous to just add people on the fly, but I have a hard time calling my mates at work friend's. I feel like I'm slapping on an inappropriate label.

Nah. I haven't really talked to anyone personally on here.
It doesn't really seem to do anything either, so I don't really see any reason to either way.

Sure I have quite a few on my list but I only communicate a couple of them at the most (two I had met IRL and another one we share video on a weekly basis).
Granted I'm not saying there is no reason why I have a list/ why I'm on their list as the reason why I have a list in the first place is that I eitehr get along with them in the opinions/ comment and we got something in common.

I've been here awhile now and I don't think I have a single friend on here. I generally tend to be pretty nice and polite to everyone I meet nowadays. So do you guys even use this friend list thing?
Well if you are as nice and friendly as you say you, I will be your friend if you like. Full on friendship!.........................That qoute...it's going to lose me some friends.

Anyways, I have some friends and I've talked to most of them at least a little bit. Those that I've spoken too seem really cool and one of them has become a really good friend.

What I don't understand is why people add me out of nowhere. Just today someone named LG Jargon added me as a friend...I have no idea who this person is or why they would add me, I have never spoken to this person and don't know anyone in Delaware so...what the hell?

But...whatever.

Yeah.

It doesn't actually do anything though. I just use it as a way of saying, "Hey, I think you're alright."
Pretty much this. I mean, I went ages and ages without using it at all, but I was still buddies with some of the users here. The only real use for the list other than what Zhukov suggests is as a means to quickly look up people for whatever reason.

I don't use the friend's list. I let people friend me first. Which never happens.
