Blizzard have been making their games on Mac since at least starcraft, yet people seem to be under the impression that Games and Macs don't mix.

I was just wondering if there is a big market of mac users just itching to pwn some n00bs? will steam lead to a big gaming revolution on Macs?

I'm a console player only. I don't like Valve anyway so even if I was a PC/Mac gamer I'd give it a miss.

hmm, fair enough. but its not just valve and steam, the makers of BFBC and Gas Powered Games, have also expressed interest after the valve announcement.

I play on console but I do like the fact that they are doing Steam on Mac. I'm one of those hippies that likes to see everybody playing a game and not a select few systems.

It won't make a difference, although making VALVe games OpenGL will be good.
My PC is win, and no overpriced mac can compare to its beastliness.

Doesn't affect me, not only am I a uni student and far to poor to afford a Mac (even when they aren't outdated they are still far too expensive compared to regular desktops/PCs for their relative power), and then there's the double whammy of being Australian (wherein anything computer related is defaulted as being significantly more expensive than it otherwise would be). Maybe sometime in the distant future when Mac OS is available OEM, until then it couldn't affect me less.

I think it might be slightly pointless, since Macs are generally not as powerful as PCs, but almost all are easily powerful enough to run the source engine.

The steam UI has always struck me as being more Mac-y than Windows-y anyway.

Couldn't care less. I have no plans of ever having a mac, laptop or otherwise. I'd be playing on Linux if I could. Been meening to look into emulation software like Wine for a while now.

Do people care about Mac? :p Is Mac a good OS? If so, what are its qualities in comparison to Windows.

Well I think it's about time for steam to be on Mac's, but it will only extend their store. Any serious Mac gamer, uses Boot camp, (which is built into the OS), I'm using it now.

It allows you to partition and install windows on a Mac. So after almost 2 months of enduring the Mac OS, I just switched back.

More serious Mac gamers boot into windows for their games, and Mac for their work. Which is what I had intended, but its too easy to avoid work when you have to boot into it.

(I also love the irony of their marketing...)

I wish Valve would stop wasting time on making Left4Dead/Team Fortress and porting over to macs and get Half-Life Episode 3 finally finished.
I'm getting sick of waiting on the "faster" release cycle of episodes.

I have nothing against macs for general use, but when it comes to gaming why would you use anything other than a PC?

Look at the apple store and look at the spec and price of a mac pro, its fucking ridiculous! For £2000 you get a quadcore and a rebranded nvidia 9600GT. Thats an insane ripoff.

I have a PC at home with Steam and love it, but my work computer is a iMac. So this comes as great news to me. I really look forward to playing Team Fortress 2 when I should be working!

I plan to get TF2 when it comes out for Macs, and I don't really see how this move by Valve is intrinsically a bad thing. At the very least, it will expand their potential userbase.

While I am not and will not be playing on mac (at least in the forseeable future), I'm quite glad they are getting Steam and an expanding library of games. Good for them!
