I took another user's post and turned it into this thread. I forget his name, he can PM me and I'll edit it.
EDIT: Oh damn, I screwed up the poll, how would I go back to change it?
if i remember right
(its been a while since i've posted anywhere with this kind of forum tech)
then you should be able to fix it by editing your first message [footnote]aka the one i quoted[/footnote] the poll should be above the first message in its own seperate area where you can change the questions add more remove the poll change the name of the thread etc. i'm surprised that no one has tried to help unless he edited it seconds before i saw it in which case the gods of timing have truly smiled upon me today ^.^

Everyone loves to make fun of other people, and America's an easy target because of how many stereotypes we posess.

We don't give a crap, say whatever you want. Everyone else is just pissed because of how awesome we are.

Well, let's see...America is stereotyped for being fat (our obesity issue), lazy (Katrina still recovering after six years, among others), and stupid (George Bush, among others). So...maybe?

For what it's worth, the "average" person I found in Texas to pretty dumb. But then again, I saw the same trend back in Pakistan and England and the UAE. Stupid is blind to all color, deaf to all accents, and unheeding of all boundaries. Stupid just is--and she welcomes us all.

It's just those Jealous, Soccer (THAT'S WHAT THAT SPORT IS CALLED! FOOTBALL IS RESERVED FOR TRUE PATRIOTS!) playing Euro preps who like to think they're better then us because "They're rich" We'll show them... One of these days... Now who wants to stop by McDonalds for some super sized "Freedom Fries" and "Freedom Shakes"?

I kid, I kid, I'm an American and I just love the stereotype of our country. In most cases when it's not being portrayed negatively, we're shown to be just like Adorable Little Leeroy-Jenkins' who happen to eat a ton of food.
:O *raises his pudgy hands* but can we still get some freedom fries?

No Americans over-stereotype Americans. Most of the international people I know aren't nearly as stereotyping as my fellow countrymen.

America has the most prolific media of any country, so of course the result is essentialization. American is also too big for easy analysis, so stereotypes are a handy alternative.

But this doesn't necessarily mean that the stereotyping is abnormally bad or frequent.

Replace 'America' with anything else that is stereotyped. It will still be true.
There it is. Most things get stereotyped, especially culture, whether it be a national culture or a culture surrounding a hobby. People complain about America more often because the have a lot of influence, there for a lot of exposure to those to don't live there and more chances to find something they don't like.

...everywhere I've traveled in the world has its share of mostly untrue stereotypes. Usually they simply reflect the state of the place's loudest vocal minority.
That's true. But I do get annoyed that the US seems to be stereotyped as dumb, lazy, over-compensating, overly aggressive, and just basically everything that's wrong with the world.

I mean, on a logical level, I know that nothing anyone says or does is going to stop stereotyping, but I still get fed up with it after a while.

Yet I, an average American, know my grammar a tad bit better than you. You are directly referring to over a half of a very large country and calling them all idiots, a county you no doubt have never been in but have only seen bits of on entertainment media.

I am not saying we're smart, but I am saying that if you are going to insult a country at least have the common decency to actually know what you are talking about.

Now I'm not saying he was a good president by any means, but he was a president. That doesn't just happen by accident.

OWNED.

People over generalize America all the time. Its a fad, probably not going away.

Maybe so, but some of the actions he chose to take were not exactly the most...inspired.

But if you imagine him doing those things with a Bud Light, cowboy boots and that laugh of his it becomes amusing.

And the dumbest comment of the day goes to.....MACHETESWORDGUN. WOOHOO! You just won the grand prize!
It's funny because he lives in America. I am willing to bet 5 dollars that you said that just to seem cool and trendy. That's right, if I'm wrong, I'll double your allowance!
Considering how much it's encouraged here, can you blame a few weasels for wanting to get in good with the community? Now if you were to stereotype another nation around these parts, there'd be an issue.
