Very annoying in threads and forums. This is why even in my texting I used perfect grammar and spelling. Granted every once or so I may switch out a "you" for a "U" if I want to go quicker, but the effort I put into my messages is probably appreciated by the person receiving it.

TYPE THE WORDS OUT. It's easy even if you don't know how to type (I peck).
Damned good point. I never used "textese" before I learned to type; I pecked as well.
Peck?
Take your right index finger, and possibly your left as well. Do a few keystrokes with only this/these finger(s). Now do this at light speed. That's pecking.

Captcha: most of us speak English, or at least a HUMAN language but whatever, ttonextr Zedekiah it is.
Urgh, I like using all my fingers :/
Oh my God, he was talking about what people do before they learn the qwerty. I also hate pecking, hated it up until I learned to type, and now I don't have to hate it, because it doesn't exist for me.
Ohhhhhhh, I see.

Didn't we have this same thread yesterday? I will, however, reiterate my point of view. "Txt spk" is a blight upon communication. It is a vile insult to language and use of it should be punishable by being forced to proofread bad fanfiction for a week. I do not believe it is acceptable even in text messaging, let alone forums or email.
Bah. Wot gud haz langwaj evr dun 4 meh?
It burns, it burns! Someone please fetch this gentleman a copy of the Harry Potter fic My Immortal. It is to be his sole reading matter for the next week.

Ever since about 2004 I've just assumed that everyone is using it ironically, so I find it hilarious. 50% of them probably aren't, of course, but it's just better this way.

Didn't I suffer enough just writing it?

Plus, when you don't know text speak, it's hard to come up with ways to make words look dumb.

It's annoying and dumb, and i can't take the person who writes like this seriously by default.

The only thing worse is people saying "LOL" in real life. Sometimes even without laughing. Makes me feel all face-punchy
I remember very clearly a once perfect day in a computer store, Fry's Electronics, if you know the place... that started to form spidercracks along the surface when I heard a pre-teen (No, I'm not going to call them tweens. That's degrading, retarded, and there's already a word for 10-12 year olds... pre-teens.) in a miniskirt with her horrible squeeky voice using those (the other ones as well) to her mother. And then to her friends. And not just, for example, saying "Lol" or "Rofl" as a word, saying "L-O-L", "R-O-F-L", "O-M-G", et all.

Come to think of it, I can't remember if people saying "Omg" or "O-M-G" infuriates me more.

Internet slang infuriates me most on any kind of proper writing. Forms, stories, job applications, and to a degree, forums and e-mail.... Written English- You don't have to be the next Shakespeare, Dickens, or Twain, but please, don't be Jackson Pollock with a pen.

And actually, OPs example didn't infuriate me. It reminded me of my friend's horrible spelling when using IM. He has horrible spelling all the time, but that's just when it's noticeable.

It's horrible. I can't abide it even in text or games. Though I can understand it's usefulness, I just can't stand it myself.

Best description I've ever read about this phenomenon was by an admin in DOW forums: 13 year old AOL user on crack :p
