Yes, kind of, I like collections because it's nice and easy to read a whole chunk in one setting.

What do you mean do people "still" read comic books.
Of course people read comic books, I read comic books! There are some fantastic comics out there, to judge the medium solely based on character books is a shame.
The medium is experiencing a renaissance really. If do a quick search or browse through any store you'll find some great stuff. Whether it be character books, graphic novels or manga (though it seems to be harder to find good manga...).

Yup. Not often since most series I like turn to shit but still occasionally.
I just hate when people refer to comics as "graphic novels"...
You do realise there is a such thing as a graphic novel, right?
A good deal of Will Eisner's work for example.
Or Maus.

I would if I had the money to and there was a store near me. Sadly though I'm broke and the nearest store is half an hour away.

Nope. Still comic books chap. The term "graphic novel" was invented to try to bring credibility to comic books. Which is retarded since the only people who ever refer to stuff as "graphic novels" are the same people who already read comic books. Kinda defeating the purpose.

If you want to use the term graphic novel then the only thing that it would fit is those novels that have the occasional picture every couple pages.
Sure, it still is the same medium, but the term allows one to differentiate themselves from the mainstream books. I wouldn't say it's an attempt to bring credibility.
As I recall Will Eisner coined to term, so he could differentiate his intent.
It's simply telling one singular tale in a book, similar to a novel, thus, "graphic novel".

I read comic books. I love comic books. I might not get the regular issues any more (After Blackest Night, and the fact that as soon as one event ends, another one begins), but I do get plenty of TPBs (Trade Paperbacks. They usually do a good job containing all the story.)

I read manga if that counts, got to say its a pain in the ass, it takes forever for new chapters of my favorite manga's to come out.

Personally I do think its a little odd to see someone in their teens or later reading comics, I thought they were intended for 12-year-olds at most. Maybe a couple of them are a little more in depth?

Anyway, I don't read them, though I do read a lot of books. None of them need any pictures or illustrations.

I tried getting into comic books once.

When I was younger and the spiderman cartoon series was running on TV I figured I'd try out the comics since the TV show was such fun.

I was a 6 year old kid being dumped into the middle of the clone saga. =D

But yes, I'm off comics for ever.

I was never a big fan of Western superhero comics, but I was into a lot of the DC Vertigo titles. I like Hellboy too. I'll read books by authors that I like (Warren Ellis, Garth Ennis, etc.) or books I've heard good things about. Oni Press puts out some titles I've really liked. But I don't collect them regularly. It's an expensive hobby and I have other hobbies with more priority. Luckily I'm a librarian and can borrow comics from work sometimes.

Some of Eisner's work might qualify (since I think he coined the term "graphic novel"), but Maus is non-fiction. How can it be a "novel"?

While I think there are books that can rightly be called "graphic novels", I think the term is used to give the medium more "legitimacy" so bookstores and my older librarian colleagues can be convinced to stock comic books.

Yep. I still read comic books and know a lot of people that read them too. There´s a bit of something for everyone in the medium...just like in film. It´s just a matter of finding the right stuff for you.

I'm fairly certain non-fiction can still be referred to as a novel, given the format. Also it was Will Eisner who coined the term, not bookstores.

Edit: Whoops, I just noticed you were aware of that.

Yeah I read a lot of comic books, infact, comic book sales are doing remarkably well at the moment. Guess you're just not looking in the right places.

As a side note I frequent that site as well (mostly for Nostalgia Critic and Spoony), and despite my love for comics, I rarely watch Linkara's stuff. I don't know why really. He is pretty funny.

I haven't started yet, but my brother recently became re-immersed in comics. He bought a bunch of Mass Effect comics (I'm gonna read those), a Venom comic, and wants to buy a series of Carnage comics (he really likes Symbiote characters).

The Mass Effect comics are surprisingly good considering they were written by a video game writer. The same can be said about Felecia Day's Guild comics so far... Either Darkhorse has an eye for multimedia prodigies or they have a really good editorial staff XP

I've actually just started reading comics about 2 months ago.

I've finished "The Walking Dead" up to Trade 13

Finished "Arkham a serious house on serious earth"

First 2 hardcover volumes of "Y The Last Man" (Have the 3rd one ordered)

And i'm almost finished Trade 1 of Sandman.

I have a friend who passed me "I Kill Robots" which i'll read next and I want to start "Preacher afterwards.

I have to slow down because it's getting pretty pricy but i'm absolutely loving it, i've actually stopped playing games recently and read instead. Although by all means I spend 8 hours a day playing games at work >.>
