so do you think there comes a point in time for a game/movie/book what ever where you think its ok to name spoilers because (I'm not talking about famous ones ether those are hard to avoid) or do you think its just common courtsy not to use spoilers regardless of how old the work is?

Yes I am, almost always in fact. Once I...
... accidentally spoiled that Aerith died...
... on a forum, and the consequences thereof made me reconsider my attitude towards spoilers.

I wouldn't say you should always use spoiler. It just takes a bit of common sense really.

Well, some things *everyone* knows. And if they don't, they are an idiot.

For example - its hardly a spoiler any more to say "Darth Vader is Luke Skywalkers father". Nobody doesn't know that. And if they don't, then they have more pressing concerns, like why they've been living in a hole devoid of all human contact for the last several decades or something.

But in most cases; don't be a douche about spoilers.

If it's a major spoiler from a popular game/movie/book/TV show/etc. then wait at least 6-8 months. If it's minor then I'd say 3-5 months after release and you're okay. I use spoilers anyway, but you don't have to spoiler everything.

Once its like 5 years past the release of the material, give me a break, its not really a spoiler anymore, and people should not get pissy about it.

Well, for older games, I don't really care about spoilers, unless it's an incredibly plot focused game, for example Bioshock. But if someone came over here and revealed the ending to Halo 3, I really wouldn't care. and on newer games, while I won't reveal major plot twists, I can feel fine with revealing stuff that happens on the missions.

And pretty much everyone knows at this point that Aeris/Aerith, whatever her name was, doesn't make it past the second act.

The cake is a lie!

Oops, should've spoilered that. But seriously, if it's been less than a few months, spoilers are probably a good idea, but after that it takes some common sense depending on source material. Like the Portal one is free to leave out after about two weeks of it's release. If you don't know whether or not it should be spoilered, you should do it to be safe.

Yeah, I'd say at that about 3-5 months after the game comes out it's not a spoiler.

{In Black Ops you kill JFK, and Reznov was in your head the whole time.}

That was a good one.

OT: I'm really careful about using spoilers, and I wish others would be too (that go to sleep picture in the Scary Thread totally ruled out page 30 for me, dammit!). Most people are pretty good about it, but it only takes one spoiler to ruin an entire game.

I think it's always polite to just use the spoiler tags, since there are people who have not seen/played/read something that still may want to. I'm still working on Half-Life 2, got it a week ago.

I warn about spoilers if the spoiler is a major plot twist. I warn if a post has spoilers since I didn't know how to use the spoiler drop downs (see below). Until now, that is.

Jesus dies.

Sorry, had to put that...

Depends really, I try to not spoil anything. But a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do.

This isn't really making any sense. You are an apple.

I think you should at least put a warning on somthing even if it is a little old since not everyone plays/see's somthing at the time it comes out

D'yu know something that does bother me. People who don't bother to tell you what the thing that's hidden in spoiler tags relates to. This makes the spoiler tags useless, we have to open them to find out whether or not we should be avoiding the thing that is spoilered.

I don't think it matters if everyone has played it by now.

Aerith dies in FF7
Everyone knows about that so I don't see the point on a spoiler box.

But if someone, say spoiled the ending to Ass Creed Bro,I'b be mad.

Uncle Ben gets shot and dies
