Poll: Do the hunting rifles in L4D2 really suck?

I use them about every time I play L4D so I don't think so but my teammates would always ***** at me for using the "weakass rifle". I'm a guy who hates recoil and inaccuracy and LOVE being able to kill three enemies with one shot so I love the gun. Plus, it zooms (though kind of pointless in a zombie game).

That said, what are your favorite kind of items/weapons in L4D2?

Grenades are favorite because they're the only thing that can get a whole bunch of zombies away from me in a few seconds, other than a grenade launcher of course. Sure, they don't work on special infected, but being a guy who uses hunting rifles and shoots from afar, the horde is the only thing that really bothers me.

Do hunting rifles really suck?

To me, most of Left 4 Dead's weapons are balanced. Each gun is good at it's own thing - distance, power, fire speed, accuracy, and the hunting rifle is one that has high accuracy and the best range. However, there are few times you need its range. I think it's a generally useful weapon, but not the most useful.

Your favorite items in L4D2?

Guns. Duh.

What weapons do you normally use to kill a tank?

Boomer bile and shotguns.

Do you go in near with your machete even when you have a fully loaded M16 in your hands?

Depends on the circumstances - I'll do it if the zombies are close, it's the end of the level, I'm low on ammo/want to conserve it, or if I can afford losing the health.

The fact is, Its a Zombie Apocalypse. There are millions, they are brain dead. So what are you going to need a sniper rifle for in it? I prefer just rifles or shotguns.

It's one hit kills on common infected and point-and-click from the hip. No, it's not useless.

I liked them in L4D, but I think they're overshadowed by the military sniper in L4D2. As far as I recall. It's been too long, but as I recall the military has twice as many shots per magazine (30 vs 15), and they have exactly the same amount of power, range, and accuracy. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

its good to have one good sniper in a team in l4d since being able to pick off special infected or mow down a hall way is really useful altho against a tank its pretty worthless

and yeah the military rifle in l4d2 is much better then the hunting is

The hunting rifle is great in the right hands. Too bad those hands are rare to come by. You almost never have to worry about special infected again with a good sniper in your team. And as for L4D2? Sniper Rifle/Katana is one of the most effective combos in the game.

It has it's uses. Very handy on certain levels and useless on others., but it's still good to have at least one guy carrying a model of it

I hear people say the Ak-47 is crap a lot and it's my main weapon. It can 1-shot common infected and is accurate at range as long as you only fire in bursts. I think people hate it because they don't understand the concept of AIMING.

Regarding the hunting rifle, I don't see why you don't use the sniper rifle: it's basically the same gun, but better.

The hunting rifles do not suck at all, actually. They are unbelievably accurate even when hip fired, and do an amazing amount of damage. In my opinion, machine guns are the worst. Hell, even duel pistols are better than machine guns.

Basically, the hunting rifle is OK against regular infected (even against rushes, as if I recall, the bullet penetrates, so if you can get a chokepoint you can down several with one bullet) anyway, it's adequate for that job. It's amazing vs special infected (because they're all big targets that don't have amazing HP so the hunting rifle can extinguish them easy) and they're useless against tanks. Absolutely. Useless. Basically, take it situationally. If everyone's loaded on shotguns, you're playing versus, you want a sniper rifle - they can handle tanks but they'll need a ranged player to snuff out faraway smokers and so on that'll try and ruin your day.

I always scoffed at the rifles in L4D because you need crowd control, not precision, but now that I've tried them more fully, I'm finding myself using them more than the shotties and the ARs. I didn't realize it did pierce-through damage, so it does control crowds as long as they are all running single-file at you. There have been countless occasions in both single player and VS modes where I have sniped an incoming special infected because they thought they were out of range. Also, the damage per bullet is still very high, so I'm not scared of tanks while holding it either. I think the damage-per-clip is about the same as the ARs.

When I owned L4D2, I loved the AK. Especially when I got a laser sight for it. It was like being Rambo at times.

OT: Do the Hunting Rifles suck? Nope. Actually, I love them as they carry on through as some have said, making one kill into two or three if you get the angle right.

As for my favourite items, melee. I love hitting a zombie in the face with a cricket bat.
But I am a fan of the Magnum pistol in L4D 2. That gun is so meaty, it's basically a mini-shotgun!

They are only good to kill a tank that is occupied with mauling your friends or a smoker,otherwise rifles almost worthless.Unless you have friends online to protect you don't use rifles.
