I agree with him the majority of the time. He seems to have a pretty astute perception of what goes into games. Even his review of EVE Online, a game I have played and do thoroughly enjoy, was pretty much spot on. It is a program you run in the background. I use the in-game browser while I run mining ops. It's relaxing. It's a strange program, but once you accept that, you can have fun with it. As a 'space shooter', it pales. But that's not what it was supposed to be. However, looking at it like a game, Yahtzee's observations were pretty much on the mark.

Sure, they can bring up good points, but all he really does is point out bad things in games.

This is a thing I am aware of.
Perhaps it is my fault for not putting that in the post, but I was hoping people would be able to pick up on the fact that I do know he's a critic.

Looking back, I should have put that little tidbit in.
It would have saved you a bit of time.

No, i don't see them for seriousness, but for the humor.

While i think he's hillarious, and makes good points in focusing on the bad parts of the games, he is biased and worse, his total neglect of playing multiplayer makes his reviews unserious (at least for games that have heavy MP parts)
Some games are just meant priamrily for multiplayer, and ignoring that fact makes the rewiev stand out as week and primadona-ish, if it we're meant to be taken seriously.
But then again, i hardly take reviews serious anyways, cause most of it is subjective anyways.

So as i see it, he chooses to review games in a very biased way, which helps make them as funny as they are, while still beeing able to inform you about the game.

Hope that makes sense.

I usually figure that a game is about twice as good as what he says, meaning that if he says a game is ok, the game is great and is a game is total shit, it's probably ok.

For the most part, I agree with his reviews. I just like his attitude on ridiculing the mainstream games, and his ability to sift through all the crap to find the real core of the problems. The jokes aren't as funny as they originally were (getting a little repetitive), but he talks about the stuff that most other reviews completely fail to take notice of.

One review that I particularly like is his BioShock video; where he complains about it being shallower than was advertised, having no RPG elements, the deus ex machina chambers, being exactly like system shock 2, and being a swift kick in the balls for anyone experienced with "more complex" games like Deus Ex, STALKER, System Shock, etc. Especially about over-hyped games making him suspicious, more than excited.

One review that I particularly didn't like is his video on The Witcher. I can understand him not liking it; it's not for everyone, and his complaints about the endless drudgery and quests ("This is a mumorpuger!") are sensible. However, the line where he lost me was "I'd rather be stupid and having fun than bored out of my huge genius mind." Thing is, if you had an allegedly "huge genius mind" (ie, if you were someone who likes complex RPGs) then you wouldn't be bored, you'd be rather entertained. I also think it's inconsistent with the rest of his videos where he rips into all the utter stupidity found in mainstream games and how people find them to be so brilliant.

Yeah, I think some of his reviews stress some good points about bad mechanics of games (like the whole planetary resource collecting in ME2 being boring...and the AI from Far Cry 2 being too smart) but generally I take his opinion as sort of a small influence. I still bought Far Cry 2 after he gave it a bad review. I bought Borderlands and didn't share the same opinion on it, I just thought it got really boring.

He has a good eye at finding bad things in the game but besides that most of the game reviews he does are more of a joke cause you can't tell people about the whole thing in under 10mins

To be honest, I find his reviews to be pretty dead on. The games I have played that he has reviewed have come together rather nicely. Unfortunately he leaves a lot out in his reviews, so it makes it difficult sometimes to compare his experience to mine.

For one, the Prototype review was woefully in need of more explanation, but since he was comparing it to infamous, it worked if you had watched that review.

Saints Row 2, Wolfenstein, Prototype, and Red Faction Guerilla expressed my feelings well.

The main reason though is because of his review of Bioshock. I agree with him 100 percent. It's just not taking you to the promised land.

I very rarely agree with Yahtzee, much less give a shit about his opinion, however, sometimes he does raise some valid points which I find myself agreeing with at times, though it's never affected my enjoyment of a game in any particular way.

I mainly watch ZP these days for shits and giggles.

I don't take him seriously as a critic or reviewer. Very entertaining and all, but I would gladly buy a game he wouldn't agree on playing.

I'm not gonna vote because I take him for what he is: an entertainer who sometimes has astute observations about games. Yahtzee generally doesn't talk about the game enough to really persuade me into buying or not buying a game. He goes over 3 basic points and comments on them in a humorous fashion. I do look to reviews quite heavily before making a purchase, meaning that I read what they say mostly about gameplay and technical issues to see if it's a game that fits my niche. Yahtzee's not that kind of reviewer. I enjoy his commentary though.

I do enjoy is written work moreso than his videos. His views on character design are dead on.
