I believe there is some kind of force at work in the world, maybe the universe, that we do not yet know of or understand. After all, it's easy to take the piss out of legends such as bigfoot, nessie, general supernatural occurances, but what it's easy to forget is that some of these occurances are of yet, still unexplained, and until an explanation, scientific or otherwise, becomes proven and confirmed, keeping an open mind is of the upmost importance in exploring such cases.
The right approach, there. Even if eventually, science led us to the conclusion that there are certain things that do not obey the conventional natural rules, and instead follow another, the scientific approach would appear to be the best way to the truth.Mariakko said:
I honestly don't know. I certainly don't rule it out. Magick may have been possible before recorded history, and the knowledge on how to control/perform it has been lost. Maybe we have yet to discover it or learn how to use it? I don't know. It's an interesting topic though.

So yeah. I believe in magic, was out last night with a guy who does it. Coin tricks are my favourite.
As for more fantasy based magic, well I believe in quantum mechanics, and that does all sorts of weird stuff, but still magic missiles are pushing it. Though I do like "Magic is simply a willful reluctance to accept the way that the world works."

magic (in the sense that you can use it in a similar way to technology) does not exist, cannot in my world view since while science cannot explain everything it dose not claim to either. Pinning a random word to something does not explain it at all.

Everything in the universe that we have observed, thus far, is explainable through physics/chemistry/biology, and we have yet to find ANYTHING that would support the idea of supernatural/otherworldly forces.

I cannot believe in magic as traditionally defined. Magic tricks are certainly real but no one is a "wizard" or "witch".

Because Harry Houdini (who was definitely a real person - he died less than a hundred years ago and there are frickin' photos of him!) performed stage magic: tricks designed to deceive the audience into believing (even for a short time) that he possessed superhuman powers. No one has ever claimed (to my knowledge) that Houdini was an actual wizard. In fact, he was mostly a stunt performer specialising in spectacular escapes.
Real magic (if that's not an oxymoron) would be that kind that Moses used to part the Red Sea, or Odin used to see the future, etc. It occurs a lot in myths and legends.
So to answer both questions: Yes, I believe stage magic exists. (It would seem a weird thing to deny the existence of!) But I don't believe in "real" magic.
I define magic as the impossible made real. And as such I don't believe in it. Anything I've seen (no matter how unbelievable), I would not consider magic... instead I would consider it reality.
