Poll: Do you believe in the pedobear Catholic priest stereotype?

Chose to post this in the off-topic forum since topic isn't religious in any sense anyway.

As we know, RC priests have been taunted and ridiculed in almost every satire as pedophiles and such. Question is: do you believe in this too? Why so?

There hasn't been any case here in our area. So it's a no for me. Don't know in other places though.

EDIT: Wow, poll screwed me over because of my damn slow net connection. Anyway, just post your answers.

EDIT: Ok another question would be: Why is this certain group associated with this stereotype anyway?

I don't believe that all catholic priests are paedophiles, but I believe there is a higher rate amongst them than in the general populace. The catholic church itself covering for paedophiles and providing them with more children was what made me advocate nuking the Vatican city however.

While I don't believe that every single one is, it's fairly hard to ignore the numbers that have been exposed as such. I think it's less that there's any particular link between the two and more that it's a setting and atmosphere that allows those wo are transgressors to get away with what they would probably be doing anyway.

I think very few Priests are pedophiles. Also very few religious leaders in general or Boy Scout leaders are pedophiles.

However, I do think that both the Boy Scouts and various churches, of which the Catholic Church is the worst most egregious, tend to protect the pedophile and pay off the victim. Or give them a "punishment" that doesn't really look like a punishment to the rest of us. I'm forgetting his name, but there was some multiple child rapist (from Boston?) who was punished by being moved to the Vatican to work there. For most of us, a move to Italy is not a punishment.

to be blunt:no are there pedophile preists in the catholic church? certainly but to say that all/most catholic preists,or even a large minority of priests are kiddie fiddlers would just be wrong.

I'm not at all fond of the Catholic church but to assume that is a tad bit drastic. Actually you might be on to an interesting topic there. How many priests still actively working in communities have engaged in such nefarious activities.

Way way back when I was in fact a Roman catholic there was a priest in my town who didn't sexually molest me.
So, either I'm not worthy or he's not a child molester.
I like to think it's both.

Stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason, when a significant portion of the population conforms to it. I don't believe all priests are pedos, but I do think a profession that requires you to go against the nature god gave you and be celebate is going to either attract those with, or give, sexual issues. We're not meant to be sexless and also condemn those that do enjoy sex.

Though the Roman Catholic Church does need to pay for what they did in covering up abuse cases. And by pay, I mean publically and with lots of jail time. See how those priests like being abused. With a mop handle. On a cold concrete floor in D Block.

No. I do believe it's happened and that the church has been very lethargic in doing anything about it, but I believe it's a vast minority and I'm it's happened in just about every church that exists. The Catholics are just the easiest to pick on because their cases get the most public attention and they do so little to rectify or even address the situations when they happen.

I don't look at a Catholic priest and think "pedophile". I do think their Church were and are a bunch of disgusting cunts in the way they treated the scandals and deserve to catch flak for it from now until the day they change (so forever, basically), though.
