Long story short, I came across several interesting sites comparing the story of Jesus Christ with that of many other stories. I for one don't believe they are true to the slightest extent, however I am interested in seeing how everyone else views this.

He was a real man, and a human inspiration. Thats all that can be proven. Why can't we leave it at that? Making him the son of God takes away from him i think. If he was the son of God then him being perfect and peaceful is like a duh moment. But if he's just a man it proves theres hope for us. (Bring the flaming rain bitches)

.....this may be a bad thread if only because of what the title sounds like. I dunno.

I probably believe the second choice.

I believe that there was probably a guy named Jesus who might have ranted about God and was the first magician and my have died on a cross, but that in no way, shape or form proves the existence of a God or that he was the son of God.

For the record, I'm a strong atheist.

(I kept this one clean as opposed to the post I got put on probation for)

Jesus was a real person. Theres plenty of evidence to support that. Whether or not you believe he was the son of god, performed miracles, etc is a completely different argument. Nonetheless he was a real person.

What do you mean by the "Horus" and the "Buddha" arguments? And "other religions," in the second option?

Do I believe that there once lived a man by the name of Jesus Christ, who was a deeply spiritual man and who probably inspired many people? Sure, that's plausible. Do I believe that he was the son of god and all that other stuff? No.

I think there was a man named Jesus, but he didn't do anything miraculous. He was a carpenter who told a lot of lies and people were gullible enough to believe him.

No, I'm saying there might have been a guy named Jesus back then. (its probable that there was. It was a fairly popular name) But I don't believe he was the son of a God nor do I believe in any God.

Besides, there were tons of people around that time who ranted on the streets in the same manner that this supposed "Jesus" did. There was a plague of these "messiahs" running around the Middle East.

As far as i know, theres been found old stuff in which the romans wrote about him, the historical person that is.

I belive theres been some dude named Jesus who somehow made a name of himself, but i don't belive taht he is the son of god (or that there is a god for)

Well, I do believe he was a real, flesh-and-bones person, but... well, maybe I just don't understand the question.

yeah he was real, even the supernatural stuff he did is actually a gross mistranslation and interpretation that comes from an older dialect of the language that we no longer use

the water to wine thing actually means what they were drinking was blessed making it wine.

to draw a parallel if i said "i was playing with a girl's fanny" to a person in the UK or a person in the States, it would have 2 different meanings

i don't think he was magical in any way and just a normal person, that they tried hard to prove he was the prophet they were hoping would come

I beleive that Jesus was a real person.

I do not beleive Mary was a Virgin.

What I do beleive in is the 'Telephone' effect.
Ever played the game telephone? Where you say a few words to 10 other people and they get changed up a bunch, mainly because people purposely do it. Its sorta like that. I beleive that people heard of Jesus and how he was faithful and etc. then it was a famous story. Then people started exaterating. Like well... Chuck Norris. "Chuck Norris can bench press 100000 lbs." Like that... but people actually beleived it.

I am a Christian Protestant and I stand by my beleifs.

you would be surprised to see a lot of similarities when comparing religions. Just compare Greek and Norse mythology. Really makes you think that religions had a common ancestor.
