I havent bought any special or collectors editions of any games - but I like some of the things you get.

I will be buying the Arkham Asylum Special Edition - you get a batarang in it - 14 inches of justice!

I wont be buying the special editions of MW2 because I dont want night vision goggles that don't work.

What are you views fellow escapists?

I've bought one, and that was for Gears of War. Kinda wish I hadn't bothered.

I'll buy them if I have extra cash and it has cool stuff.
I own the Collector's Editions for Oblivion, Fallout 3, Assassin's Creed, Spore, Warhammer Online and Dark Messiah of Might & Magic.

Depending on the game. I have bought a few (Fallout 3, Resident Evil 5, Spore, Oblivion) and I plan on buying some more (Assassin's Creed 2) but not always. I don't have that much money to spend on games, nonetheless big expensive versions of games. Also, I'm not going to put out a whole bunch of money for a game I'm not sure I'll like and also have a bunch of useless things that go with a game I don't like. So normally I make sure it's going to be a game that I'll enjoy. Except Spore... that was a mistake.

i've bought the odd few, but not many. got the special edition of doom 3 when that came out. and there have been 1 or 2 others but on the whole they're too expensive to bother with.

I bought the Oblivion game of the year edition because it included the expansion packs and I was given the collector's edition for Call of Duty 4 because my rich friend had cash to blow.

But to answer your question, no. I don't really go out of my way for collector's editions unless there is actually something to be gained like the Oblivion one.

I don't usually buy them, because more often than not you have to pay a lot more money for some stupid gimmicky thing you're never going to use. See: SPARTAN helmet; CoD night-vision goggles.

That being said, I will buy the special edition if it has something I want. For instance, I lost my Quake II disc years ago, and as such, when I heard that the Quake 4 special edition came with Quake II, I was thrilled, and bought it immediately.

What makes you think they won't work?

I usually buy them if it's a game I'm actually interested in, or you get something really cool in it - below is a list of games I bought (or plan to buy) special versions of and the specific reasons why:-
Bioshock: Big Daddy figurine
Fallout 3: Bobblehead and lunchbox
Saints Row 2: Bullet-shaped USB drive
Halo Wars: Early access to the latest Halo 3 map pack
Halo 3 ODST: ODST-themed controller (also, pre-ordered at EB so I get my Sergeant Johnson character for Firefight mode)
Modern Warfare 2: Night Vision goggles!
Gears of War 2: Just really liked Gears 1... the only bonus I actually remember from Gears 2 is the COG tags, which were actually a preorder bonus. I didn't have to buy the special eition to get those.

Regrets:-
Not buying Halo 3 Legendary edition. I guess I bought the regular edition because I didn't think I'd like Halo 3 as much as I did.

The only special edition I ever got was Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm for the Ps3, and I only got that because it was the same price as the regular edition at Gamestop, and I happened to like the series enough to know I'd enjoy that game so I did. I would like the Special Edition of Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed II, but not likely.

Huh, I suppose I own two special editions in that case, because if I'm going to pay 20 bucks for the content, I'd rather have it preinstalled on the disc and make one payment instead of two. So yep, I guess I own two.

The technology of NVG isnt cheap they cost more than the prestige edition. I dont think they will be good quality or lasting.

I like all the things you listed, I wanted the lunchbox fallout 3

I buy them only if the price isn't too much higher than the regular version, so not very often.

I do own a few special editions, but I only buy them if it's a game I'm absolutely ecstatic about AND if I deem the extra content worthy and not too pricey.

I have the SE's of Prince of Persia (2008) (pre-order package), Assassin's Creed (with Altair figurine), Warhammer: Mark of Chaos (with art booklet, novel, soundtrack, postcards and a symbol of a random Chaos deity cast in iron) and Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War II (pre-order steelbook edition with codes for exclusive items).
Oh, and I pre-ordered Batman: Arkham Asylum for PS3 a few days ago, me likey that Batarang! ^^

No, but my husband does. He likes all the extras you get with it.
