It's not the rule, but some editions are indeed nice to have. Soundtracks are nice, but it's nothing you can't find on the internet.

The Limited Edition of BlazBlue or the Hokuto No Ken 1v1 fighing game are pretty good (technically I'm cheating with the first one), because they includes a DVD/BluRay with insider tips on how to do combos and stuff.

I also like editions that come with a comic, (sometimes) making of or guide (where people got their influences from and what the psychological meaning of specific designs is), but the latter are fairly rare. Man, if BioShock had that crab-man-hybrid in the game, I'd shit myself.

And I'll definately get the Asassin's Creed 2 Black Edition (figurine and extra missions)

I never really got the point of those art book things, especially in games where the artwork really did not translate into what the game looked like.

I wouldn't mind some of the little nifty figurines/collectors things as I do like having little things around as a reminder, if it's of a fantastic game that is.

But at the end of the day, money is short, things are expensive, I'm lucky if I can afford a pre-owned copy of a game. So no, I don't buy them, might in the future tho.

The only Special/Collector's Edition game I can recall that I have at this moment is Quake 4.

Kind of sad that that very Special Edition is still available in stores now, at only a fraction of the original price. Q4 wasn't a very popular game. <_<

It's much more common for me to get special editions of movie DVDs. Have plenty of those.

I normally only get the special edition if it comes with a soundtrack CD or if its almost the same price (within £5) of the normal game. The ones I have (that I can remember) are:

Perfect Dark Zero (it was £5 pre-owned)
Medieval 2: Total War
Empire Total War
Age of Empires Collectors (1 & 2 and a soundtrack CD)
Age of Empires 3 (Large artwork book, CD and making of in a massive box. Well worth it)
The Witcher (Because it came with so much shiny stuff)
World In Conflict
Heroes of Might and Magic Complete Edition (All 5 games, all add-ons, Art book, soundtrack CD and a t-shirt all for £30. PC World can't price things to save their lives)

Nice - what ones are you interesting in getting in the future?

I picked whenever I can...afford it. I've got a few special edition I have Unreal 2k4, UT3, The Witcher EE. Special editions are nice, like the UT3 one, where it came with a hard cover artbook. It was pretty cool. Same with the Witcher EE, as it came with two soundtracks and short story, a map, and other stuff.
