My swearing habits are the same around anyone that I have close connections too. Which means I don't swear much. I swear to put an emphasize on something, to make a point or as a part of a joke. My mom swear just a little less, my sister swears a little more. We live in that part of the country where swearing doesn't count for much. I have heard a priest swear. In church, right before a ceremony. However if I were to swear all the time it would take away the meaning of it, that's why, not because I respect my parents (I do though).

I learned them all from my parents. My mom comes from a a family of dockworkers and longshoremen, and my dad is just foulmouthed in his own right, so the only words that phase me are racial and homophobic epithets.

All the time. She only gets/has gotten mad over the "N-word" and "******".

Note, I do not say these words to offend or demean a person or group of persons.

I just find words with dougle G's are fun to say. They just roll off the tongue.

I didn't vote BECAUSE I'M AN ORPHAN!!!11!!eleven!!!1! /emoface

My mother died when I was 7 so I have no idea if I would have sworn in front of her. Probably not, despite the fact that she swore all the time; for some reason I suspect she wouldn't like it. However, I don't remember her well enough to know for sure.

I swore in front of my father all the time. That is, those few times we spent together in the same room. Swearing is a bit different in Swedish culture; it's not really that much of a taboo. Hell, it's even in our kids shows, and we rarely blip it out of anything.

Fuck yeah, I fucking do. I think they've given up, though. Seriously, don't get me started on the ethics of swearing. But I'm known or being a clown and swearing is part of that.

Depends on which parent. I read a quote I found online (no idea what it was) that had a swear word in it (no idea which one) and my dad started screaming his head off. I never realized anybody got upset about swearing when you are quoting someone. Anyway I avoid swearing around him now. I don't have any issues swearing in front of my mother though. She doesn't really care and she swears sometimes as well.

That said I don't swear AT them. I may refer to something as bullshit, but I never call THEM shit or say "Fuck you" to them.

Depends entirely on the conversation. I tend to be like my mother, the more excited I am, the more frequently I swear (and the more harsh the language!). So, if we're talking about an exciting topic or something fun, the curse words tend to drop often. If it's just a sit down quietly/evening meal type of conversation, it's not as often.

My maternal grandparents and kids >10 are the only people I don't curse around. Mainly because they're jesus freaks than any respect kinda thing (sorry for the Buffy speak). The two rules in my father's house when I went to live with them we're "Don't call if you get locked up" and "Don't insult/assault family" so using the whole dictionary was pretty acceptable.

I swear at my Parents, and with my friends only when I am drunk and/or very angry. Also my mum taught me to swear.

Only accidentally. I've got a younger brother at home, so it's more for his sake that I watch my mouth when I go home.

My parents are still pretty strict on swearing although I'm 18, I have always been able to say stuff like crap, damn, arse, ***** and piss though.

Light cussing like crap and heck doesnt even grant A second look. I don't say heavier words like hell or damn around them but I don't think they would be care. F-bomb="WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY!!!!" Like any of my parents rules, I will continue this. I don't care if they cuss with friends, and if my current girlfriend is thier mother I dought she will care, but the rule is don't cuss around me.

Occasionally, I generally have a good idea if my mum will think it's ok that I swear. If I swear for no reason then she'll be annoyed, if she understands why then she's pretty ok with it. I don't think my dad really cares to a reasonable extent.

Oh, yeah. I used to love the time I spent with my Mother in the car. We would point out random people that we saw and talk shit about how they dressed or looked. It was a lot of fun. She and I invented a couple cuss words together. "Faglicious" is the most memorable. I miss that.

I swear like a sailor around my mother, because she's frankly a lot more emotionally mature than my father and she understands that there's nothing really wrong about swearing. But I'm always careful about my language around my father, because, well, see above.

I don't know your family so I can hardly speak no their behalf, but I will point out that perhaps 'emotional maturity' has very little/nothing to do with tolerating vulgarity, and that it's actually more to do with conveying respect and (at a guess) your parent's trying to raise to at least appear semi-educated and civilised.

You can say there's nothing wrong with swearing(and on a technicality I'd agree), but there's a reason why professionals in businesses don't turn around and say:
"k *****, what fuckin' shit can I do for you today? What the fuck do you want? Can I interest you cunts in some fucking financial advice or are you wanting to find some shit out about our fuckin' insurance policies?"

So at a guess your father just probably wants you to demonstrate that level of respect all the time rather than just sometimes. (maybe you should ask him and find out why he doesn't want you swearing ;) )

-----------

on a side note, I don't even count 'crap', 'damn', 'dick' , etc as swear words. Only the big 3 count (though I guess '****' comes close now days), and yeah I refrain from using them around my parents(i have never heard my mother swear, ever, so i respect that by refraining from doing so around/to her).

Now that I think about it, I only tend to use them 'casually' when doing impressions or other joke type characterisations XD.

Yep, I curse in front of her just as much as anyone else who's hit puberty. That's where I draw the line, though.
That's me. I will try not to swear in front of anyone who's not a teenager or older or is just intolerant of "foul" language.

Not for me old guys. There is such a thing as free speech.
