Years ago I'd drink to excess, now I have a couple of drinks a week (a glass of wine or a fine ale)
The only time I drink more now is on birthdays or at Christmas, but that's normally because on such occasions my sister is there and I have to drink to get through the event!

No, because it's icky. Well, what I've tried is.
I get told to drink stuff like coke and vodka because it tastes just like coke, but if that's the case, I don't see why I can't just drink coke.

It's not that I have anything against drinking (in moderation and all that), I just don't see any reason to start. Even if it's just a good way to unwind, I'm lucky enough to not have anything to get me very wound up in the first place.

When I was in my teens, I used to drink like a fool.
Nowadays I rarely drink, with the exception of a couple events each year.
I've never really enjoyed drinking. Not the taste or the sickness it can sometimes cause me, and the state of mind it causes is nowhere near as awesome as other mind-altering substances.

I'd much rather smoke weed or take psychedelics, but they tend to be not-so-social drugs.
There's always mdma, but that is rare in my area.

Stupid laws making things hard to obtain.

Edit: To be fair, the taste isn't always so bad. Just a matter of having some good mixing skills.

I'm an Australian and I'm a university student yet I never have, nor ever will drink alcohol.

This may or may not be a suprise but I'm seen as exceptionally weird by my peers for not drinking.
me and you both
i don't think the benefits of alcohol out weigh the negatives. i'll have a couple of drinks with the old man every now and again but for the most part i wont touch the stuff
i really don't like the beer o'clock culture in australia
Queenslander here. I have tried alcohol but never enjoyed it enough to make it a regular habit. Not drinking here in QLD kills the social scene though, it's really quite depressing.

Actually, no. There are several reasons that I don't but two of them are "don't like the taste" and "against the idea, so I didn't know what to vote on in the poll... :p

If you want to know why... It's partially because when i was a kid my mum said "alcohol is a poison, I use it to kill the bugs I catch, instantly" (she's a zoologist), and I was like "And people DRINK That? O.O", so the fact that it's a poison has been imbedded in my brain... It's also because I Really don't like the taste. It really reminds me that Alcohol really is a poison.

And last but not least, (really the Main reason) I'm really scared of what will happen to me.
I'm afraid of losing control, I see what other people get like when they drink, and I become scared that I might be a "mean drunk". I'm afraid the Darkness in me will take over and... I don't know... Send people to the hospital.

So I stay away from it. That's not to say I haven't Tasted alcohol, but that's really mostly like a Drop, never anything more. That being said, I'm not a military extremist "clean" person who knocks drinks out of people's hands and says "Repent!!". People can do what they want, as long as they let me choose NOT to drink. :)

I drink on occasion. Usually on the weekends when company is coming over or if it's a special day.

Also the state I live in has stupid liquor laws which make it expensive compared to our neighbors.

I will probably never drink. Partially because of an event when I was younger that mentally scarred me,(I can never visit British Columbia again) my fear of not being in control mentally, the constant challenges from people(mostly family) who say that everyone drinks eventually, and that I don't see why I should spend up to $60 for a bottle that lasts only one or two nights, when for the same price I can get a game that lasts WAY longer, is more fun, i'm mentally in control, and I don't wake up married to a homless person with a migrain.

...but thats just me.

I've never had any. I don't drink because of

1) health
2) money
3) wanting to keep my wits about me
4) alcoholic family members

Not much of a social gathering person anyway (never gone out with friends or anything) so I don't mind it at all. Not to mention that I seem to be fairly immune to peer pressure, if high school was any indication

I don't drink but not because I'm opposed to the idea. I understand that people drink socially but I never really got into it personally (also it seemed like my generation drinks to excess by default which turned me off). I don't drink because I hate the sensation of drunkenness. I have also strongly disliked the flavor of every alcoholic drink I've had with the exception of drinks that are more coffee or, juice than anything. I can't help but think, "why bother ruining a good juice-blend or, coffee with the risk of getting dizzy?"

There is another reason I don't drink and that's the cost. I'd rather spend money on games and comics than booze. Though admittedly I use that same argument to talk myself down from amazon sprees...(because amazon sprees get me games and comics but take away money that could go towards gas and, vital car parts)

Also this. My bio-Dad wasn't a drinker but my step-dad was and early years (when he drank more heavily) colored my perception of what drinking does to people. I don't want to be what he was...

were you brewing the real beer? alone? i remember my friends grandpa used to do. from what i know its a demanding hobby, sometimes having to stay with it for 24 hours straight and whatnot.
Nah, it takes a couple of hours to brew and about the same to bottle, with 2 weeks or more in between to ferment and another couple of weeks to prime after you bottle. That's using extract kits though, going all grain can take most of a day.

I rarely drink alcohol, but when I do, its usually wine or other kind of low alcoholic drink. I never drink stuff with high alcohol like Vodka and such.

The reason I drink alcohol? Well, its sometimes nice to feel a bit drunk sometimes, and its even making me more relaxed sometimes. I only enjoy wine though. I dislike any other kind of alcoholic drink.

I have 1-2 drinks maybe once a week, that's it. Almost always White Russians, the cream covers up the burn so they are smooth and coffee-like, almost not like a drink. I'm a sipper, it takes 45 minutes for me to finish one, so I never feel the effects. I never have more than two in one sitting: my dad was a drunk and this is all I feel comfortable doing.

In my younger years with friends I would consume copious amounts of alcohol, mostly cider of the cheap kind (such as Diamond White), then in the space between my 18th and 21st birthdays things went a little nuts.

Since then however, alcohol lost its allure, mostly owing to having managed a legion bar and seeing how people acted, and how it affected them from the other side. Now I only drink while eating out, or at Christmas with the family.

A couple of drinks on the weekend and that's about it usually. On special occasions I tend to lead the way. I can drink straight vodka like water if I want. A bacon sandwich on the morning after and I'm fine. I'm never drinking any more than half a bottle of rum ever again though: it's the only drink that's made me ill.

I tend to have 3 drinks or so per night if I have nothing to do the next day. As I am job hunting right now, that is unfortunately most days. I'm trying to limit it to 3 days per week while I'm looking. So yeah. Moderation.
I love beer, but I'll also do a Gin & Tonic, Martini, Whisky on the rocks, or a caipirinha. Also wine if I'm having dinner with friends, but I tend not to drink wine alone for some reason.

Why yes, yes I do. I enjoy getting drunk when I'm with friends, and I like a decent beer or a glass of wine with a good meal. I don't like getting noticeably intoxicated when I'm alone though, as I am an introvert and don't like it when I can't think clearly during the time I have with my own thoughts.

Oh and I get drunk a few times a month on average.

I do, but I have a self imposed limit of no more than two in a day and no more than seven in a week, which I rarely ever reach. I tend to have a glass of brandy or a wine cooler with dinner, so I never "drink to get drunk." I also make a point to pretty much never drink anywhere except at my home or at a close friend's house.
