Only sometimes. Normally so I don't seem like a stick in the mud. The taste is okay and it makes a nice change sometimes but overall I prefer the taste of non alcoholic drinks more.

One friend said you drink it because it makes you feel good. I don't see how impaired coordination makes you feel good and I never seem to get the Increased self confidence etc they were meaning.

Nope, I grew up living in a flat above a bar and I think seeing so many drunk people every single night from such a young age kinda scared me away from it.

People are amazingly intolerant of it, actually. I've been in situations where I've had to say "no" fifty times to people who try to insist on just one drink, and even had people try to spike my drink with alcohol to trick me into it.
I get this all the time too. I just can't understand this? It used to get to the point where I would just not go out with friends because it wasn't worth the hassle. Fortunately I have much nicer friends now who respect my choice.

I rarely drink but when I do I normally control myself (unless absinthe is involved). I'm not a big fan of getting smashed unlike some of my friends. I don't get how they can go out drinking every weekend...

I've yet to find any alcoholic drink I even kinda like the taste of at all. I don't even like soft drinks for the taste so that immediately rules out most alcoholic ones. If I did then I wouldn't be against the idea of having a drink every now and again but the idea of getting drunk just seems like a really really stupid one.

I don't get it either - people will respect your job, your religion (in fact, whole belief system), any other choice you make in life aside from not drinking. Living in Ireland, where drinking sums up our whole culture, I've opted to not even go out anymore. It's just not worth every human in a 5-mile radius shoving drinks into your hands.

I drink very little alcohol. Mostly because I don't like the taste of most alcoholic drinks. So maybe a few drinks a month or less.

I voted No, dont like the taste, because that is true, i dont like the taste. The only tastes i kinda like is Liquir (the name not drink in general) and red sweet wine. however, i am also agasint the idea of pumping yourself full of drugs as the only way to "Have fun". Since its tradition to gift drinks when coming in for celebration here i currently have 4 bottles of champagne and 2 bottles of vodka in cupboard, neither is even opened. I will probably re-gift them somewhere so some people get off my back for not following traditions or something.

I do. I love beer enough that I not only drink it, but got hooked on homebrewing a few years back. Lovely hobby and if I survive the apocalypse I know I'll have at least one worthwhile skill.
were you brewing the real beer? alone? i remember my friends grandpa used to do. from what i know its a demanding hobby, sometimes having to stay with it for 24 hours straight and whatnot.

I like a drink and used to have a beer casually at home every few days to chill but now I leave it for social encounters. Having a Muslim girlfriend makes me feel bad to drink at home so I don't out of respect, and to be honest I don't miss it that much.

Yeah, sometimes. I like going out and taking a few beers with my friends, and I don't mind going to parties. Only problem is that alcohol is so expensive here that I can't justify going out more than one or two times each month.

I read a column thing (which was complete bullshit) about how people who display a good intelligence at a younger age resort to alcohol when they reach their twenties. Most of the stuff the author was saying was just weird and slightly dumb but it got me thinking about how a perfectly legal drug has become not only a taboo for some but also an advertising giant which attempts to hammer in that a certain beer/alcohol is better and not only that but it affirms you more as a person.

Also this column made me think about how each person drinks for different reasons; That some drink just because they feel happier when drunk.

It almost scares me that a thing so available and accepted in large parts of the world has an effect on not only cultures but national identities. Imagine if more drugs were as large as a part of modern life as alcohol is.

I don't drink that much at all, but I can handle it well and am indifferent to the taste.
I will never drink "a lot", because I have better uses for my coin and would like to think more clearly.
Also, the more suds means the less secrets. Bah to that.

Yeah, I enjoy knocking them back. I like going to different bars, trying new drinks, googling those drinks and trying to recreate them. Starting to get alright at it.

Hey, everyone needs a hobby.

Yes, but only the tasty kind, like some red wine.
Also, no beer, because that's way too bitter.

Simple poll. If so why, if not, why not?
I personally don't drink,
I am on hiatus from drinking vast quantities of alcohol.

No. Seriously. I mean precisely that.
I was drinking a shocking amount and it was affecting my entire life in negative ways, and making my money evaporate. I stopped because I ran out of money. However, I was aware that I needed to stop. I made a point of not remembering the date, as I had no intention of celebrating the anniversaries. That was about 10 years ago, and I have consumed approximately 0.27 beers/year on average. The first three months without it were difficult, and it took 5-6 months before I could sleep properly again. The strange thing is that I don't miss it, the difficulty was largely in the physical addiction.

I said hiatus. When I retire, I fully intend to be smashed 24/7.

[And if it matters; 'good intelligence'? I am god damned brilliant.]

I drink it at parties but that's about it and only a little bit. I don't like the taste of most alcohol and the few drinks I do like are way to expensive and don't taste as good as a milkshake or something for home.
Added to the fact that I can't buy it yet because I am 17 means I very rarely drink at all.

Personally I love the taste, I love the feeling, but I don't drink because I am watching my weight. Yeah, I hate my self esteem.
