Yes - I'm 21, I've been able to drink for 4 years now (and actually drinking for longer).

A pint after a stressful day at uni is a very, very nice feeling; as is a bottle of wine with the girlfriend. Going out and getting fairly tipsy about once a month at the moment (I used to drink a hell of a lot, and truthfully I don't enjoy being drunk that much - mainly as I appear to get a "hangover" whilst still drinking).

This has nothing to do with "self righteousness", this has to do with that it turns people into bloody morons.
But go ahead and drink! Perhaps when you accidently kill yourself or someone else or mess up a relationship and blame it on "I was drunk!" you will understand.

You can take your group mentallity and stay far away from me as possible while I'll take my inviduallity and go the other way.
I take extreme offence to your point of view. Given that I rarely drink more than a pint or two, I can safely say that alcohol is harmless (I don't drive) provided you have a healthy relationship with it.

You claim that it's a poison and turns people into morons, then why do doctors recommend a glass of red wine with an evening meal as it may have beneficial health effects (reducing the chances of heart conditions)? Do you spit on that level of drinking too (it is, after all, imbibing a poison that turns people into morons)?

People can drink and not be drunk. There is a very important distinction between the two.

Rarely, I'm under 21 still for a few years and even when I am of age I still probably wont drink much

So far I've only tried about 4 different drinks and the only one I actually didn't mind the taste of was Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum, the others were just meh or eww

When I was about 17 I used to drink a lot because it was cheeky and naughty etc and then in my first year of uni I also drank a lot cos it was the norm. In my second year I went straight edge because it was a lifestyle choice which really intrigued me and I felt quite passionately about. Now, I drink quite often because I love rum and whiskey and all bar one of my friends drink. I kinda lost that straight edge passion and figured that I enjoy rum so why not drink it?

Well do you? For me I am underage but I have never thought of the idea of drinking a pleasent one. So I sort of made a early vow to never drink any Alcohol and just stick to Soda. I just like to keep sober as being drunk doesn't seem to be good physicaly or mentally.
This is almost as bad a method of thinking as the alcoholic's. Like coffee and video games, alcohol is not an evil substance, and it's possible to use it in moderation. A lot of booze simply tastes delicious; blocking your access to a wide world of fine beers, wines and spirits just because some people abuse them is pretty ill-advised.

I used to drink a hell of a lot back in high school when we used to have parties every couple weeks, but I stopped drinking so much since the amount I was having on a regular basis is rather bad for you and cost a hell of a lot of money. The last time I actually got completely shitfaced is somewhere in the region of 6-12 months ago. Now I mostly just drink because I like the taste, so I'll have a few beers or glasses of bourbon if I feel like it or am hanging out with some mates and don't have to drive anytime soon.

I am of age, and I do drink. I've never gotten drunk, mainly because when I start to feel like I'm getting to that point I panic because I don't want to throw up, so I usually stop then. For me, I like the feeling of a slight buzz, but I don't do shots or anything; I like to enjoy my alcohol, thankyouverymuch. Going along with that, I rarely ever cheap out and buy something like light beer (yuck), which means I also can't drink that often, simply because of financial limitations :) I am content with my good lagers/whiskey/rum/etc., even if I do have to pay a little extra for them.

I'm 17 and I've never drunk alcohol except for a sip here or there on New Years eve. Never enough to intoxicate me in the least bit. I might drink once I am of age, but maybe not. I haven't decided.

I hate those who judge something without trying it.

You have to get drunk atleast once before you condemn it. I'd suggest 2-3 times because it's rearely the same.
Honestly, F**k off.
I don't need to drink cyanide in order to know that's fatal now do I?
I can't stand "Oh, but you must try anything ONCE before you can turn it down!", No, we don't. Why? Because that's how Addicts are born.
"Here, take it. Common, try it! Do it for the group!"

I spit on you.

So you equate a known poison that would kill you (even if taken in minor amounts). To an inebriant that would simply induce... well inebriation?

If so you are a tool, a 100% tool.

I didn't say you have to try it to know that it could make you drunk. I am saying you have to try it before you can condemn it.

And if you're telling me that you would become addicted to alcohol simply by trying it, or even getting flat out drunk. Then no, you don't know how addictions are born. True addictions are born upon chemical and psychological dependence. Not 3 beers and a shot of tequila.

It's morons like you who foster this kind of self righteous society that judge because they don't understand. Contrary to popular belief. You're not an alcoholic because you have a drink and a healthy relationship with alcohol is not abstaining from it completely.

The air you breath every day is likely more dangerous to you than having a beer at the weekend.

Honestly, I spit right back at you. And every other sanctimonious piece of shit that decides to judge people because they do something you disagree with.
I can compare those two because that's what alcohol is; Poison.

This has nothing to do with "self righteousness", this has to do with that it turns people into bloody morons.
But go ahead and drink! Perhaps when you accidently kill yourself or someone else or mess up a relationship and blame it on "I was drunk!" you will understand.

I suppose your probably just trolling but for what it's worth:

Chill out and stop generalizing dude. If I had the links I would cite the research thats been done showing red wine reduces the risk of heart disease and many alcohols are a fabulous source of antioxidants that help reduce the risk of alzheimers. There are lots of things that are poisonous in large amounts, but completely harmless, or even healthful when used responsiblity (re: the fucking prescription your doctor write you half the time)

The problem your noticing is people who don't know when to stop, believe it or not your judgement skills are not seriously effected until you've consumed several alcoholic drinks in a short time period. You can still, quite easily say "you know what, this tastes awesome, but I'm starting to feel a little tipsy, time to stop". It the people who don't hit that point that keep going until they lack the judgement skills to stop themselves (re: potential alcoholics).

I totally respect you if you don't like the taste of alcohol, or can't drink it for religious or philosophical reasons, but don't pretend that there is no way to lead a healthy life while still drinking booze.

Fuck no, shit tastes like crap, and the following hangover sucks something fierce.

I've never understood how people could like that stuff, really causes me to lose a lot of respect for people when I find out that they do drink it.
Yeah, nothing more important for gauging someone's worth as a human being than whether they like the taste of the same foods and drinks as you amirite?
S'more like gauging a person's worth based on the fact that they willingly consume something that causes them to want to break stuff. Stuff that doesn't belong to them.

Not to mention when they take swings at cops that're trying to calm them down.

Occassionally after removing their pants for no good reason.

I probably should have mentioned that earlier, the folks that I know that drink are a bunch of fucking lunatics, the loss of respect comes from when I meet someone new, learn that they drink, ask about them, and find out they're known for engaging in the same illegal acts as the other lunatics in my town after drinking.

So from what I've witnessed in my time on Earth? Drinking = Lanacy = Loss of respect.

Were any of them to prove that they don't go and start engaging in illegal activities after drinking I might respect them some more, but alas, that situation has yet to present itself.

I'm actually a pretty mean drunk compared to being a fairly nice (if somewhat grumpy-looking) guy when sober, so no, you wouldn't like me better when I'm drinking.

Not to mention that my alcohal tolerance is pretty much zero.

Also, I just have to say, if liquor is a requirement to make yourself and others around you interesting and capable of having a good time, you must be a pretty damn dull person with dull associates indeed.

Why would I ingest a depressant that would harm my body, dignity, and possibly those around me? I don't even drink Soda that much for a similar reason.
