Not at all really.. I think its because when your a kid you dont have anything else to worry about or any other responsibilitys..and the games were just more 'fun-fun' back then if that makes sense.. And every aspect of every game was new to you whereas now we've pretty much seen it all and nothings really new anymore

No, but for different reasons than OP.

I agree that it was more "fun-fun" back then, however, what changed for me was not diminishing novelty but the fact that games became escapes and even while playing I'm still aware that once I turn the game off, reality is gonna kick in and that sucks some of my fun away.

I enjoy them more now because of the reasons in the OP.

I have a job, wife, kids and bills.

Games help me relax for a few hours a day.

Well yes, why would I keep on playing games if I didn't enjoyed them at all? Well ok it probably less fun compared to my childhood days but that's because the modren game are abit different to the SNES era (achivement, harder modes and etc). None the less I still enjoyed playing games.

I enjoy them more now.

I understand things better, and I know what I want now more than when I was a kid. I'm sure I'm not the only one who got duped as a kid into buying shitty games simply because I didn't know any better at the time. Fucking Bugs Bunny game!

Not really, but then again I don't enjoy anything as much as I used to, and games are the thing I've been doing the longest, didn't really got into music and movies until I was a teenager and right now I feel burnt out of them too, everything just feels empty and pointless right now, I guess that means it's time to go out and try something new, main reason why I've enrolled in a class of computer science, one of Math and of Biology, just want something new, may also be the reason why I'm trying to start and RP group.

Everything gets old when you do it for too long, that's why it's necessary to keep trying new things, and when you don't life feels empty and just passes too quickly.

[sub]Well that's an overly long answer that probably completely missed the point.[/sub][sub][sub][sub][sub]FUN FACT! It took me over 2 hours to type this post and it was originally 5 times longer![/sub][/sub][/sub][/sub]

As a 'kid' I didn't play games. Sure my parents had an Atari that got dusted off maybe once a year. And aged 10 we got a commodore, and a Gameboy when I was 12.

But I didn't become a gamer until I got a PC when I was 15. But I think I enjoyed them most when I was in college (10 ish years ago), just the right combination of free time, good games and early internet gamer friends.

I enjoy them even more because now I can actualy beat them. (being because games got easier, or I got better)

Also... I don't see how there is "notrhing new under the sun".
For me these last years have been completely ocupied with awesome games that wouldn't have existed in the '90. From bastion to VVVVV to battle for wesnoth. Also hurray for android games like cut the rope!

Yes, but for different reasons. Games were and felt different when I was a kid, I was able to put a lot more hours into them too. There's also the whole nostalgia feeling about playing the NES, Gameboy, PSone etc. but I still enjoy it a much now, otherwise I think I'd pretty much give up on it.

When I was a kid, it was Atari, Nintendo, a computer, or an arcade. I had an Atari, my cousins had a Nintendo, my brothers had computers, and I only ever went to an arcade at the local amusement park (Kennywood).

Since then, I have been exposed to Gameboy, SNES, Sega Genesis, ALL the frigging Playstation systems (minus the Vita), Dreamcast, Wii, Gamecube, X-Box, the internet, and I'm talking to you all on my sweet Alienware laptop that has numerous Steam games.

YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT I HAVE MORE FUN NOW.

And my girlfriend loves games, and especially loves playing with me. Fellow Escapists, it's good to be the king.

Yes, I have a lot more fun now than I did back then.

Nowadays, it's a great escape after a long and tough workday.
Nowadays, I'm old enough to appreciate the nuances and the power of the storytelling.
Nowadays, I can appreciate all the hard work and time that the developers put in to the game.
Nowadays, I can afford to get whichever game I want whenever I want.
Nowadays, the technology is developed enough that I can play at any time with my best friend who lives 400 km away.
Nowadays, there are a plethora of platforms and games of all genres available.

I'm enjoying games a hell of a lot more now. So much choice, pretty damn good stories and characters, if a game is good it's a joy to play, and hey, it looks pretty damn shiny and nice too!

Not really.

Back in the day, I used to get really, really into my games, no matter what they may be, and just have a ton of fun. I'd be in my own little world.

Nowadays, the passion has sorta faded. Although, I imagine if I played some of these games as a kid, I'd probably get more into them then I do now.

Probably the last game I played that really brought me back to being a kid again was Skyward Sword.

I enjoy them much more, as I have had more freedom to play them as I have gotten older
Then again, I still don't have a huge amount of responsibility on my shoulders at the moment, so that could all change.

Games are a different beast these days then they were when most of us were young. It's not like cartoons where the premise and how you experience them doesn't change. Games are an evolving medium. How much you enjoy them now compared to then really depends on if you like what games have turned into.

Me and my sister used to play Mario Brothers 24/7. She doesn't play games anymore, she just doesn't understand them, they seem to complicated and uninteresting. The other day, I pulled Mario Brothers 3 off the Wii virtual console and we played together for the first time in years.
The experience was actually better than I remember, because we were able to get further and understand what was happening. I've never been very close to my sister, we're just to different in personality. In that moment, I felt I got a little closer to her.

I still play games and they've become a powerful story telling medium. I used to play because they were fun, now I play because, not only are they fun, they've become so much more. When I play Uncharted, my mother will sit and watch because the game is SO MUCH like a movie and has the same entertainment value (for a spectator) as an action flick. She also likes helping me solve the puzzles, which is something you can't get in a movie.

She never did that in the days of Super Mario.

I enjoy games quite a lot, but I can't play them for hours and hours like I used to be able to.

These days I am an adult and I've realised that doing things in real life is way more fun than doing things in games, and also that the ranks I get in games are completely pointless. It ruins it a bit. Now I just play for story.

I enjoy some games more, some less. My tastes have changed, and so have contemporary games. Well, I find myself in more of a position to enjoy the artistic and deeper side of games. Those which lack depth are less interesting than they used to be. My completion rate on games has become horribly low, sometimes I play just for the novelty of it all, which is not a good sign. However when I'm really into a game, I think I can enjoy and appreciate the game world and play more deeply. Don't think I would be able to enjoy any sort of Paradox games when I was younger, now they're amongst my most played game type.
