Not really.

I'm pretty average in terms of knowledge about most things, and I'd consider myself quite lacking in terms of politics, for example. However, I know the most ridiculous facts about animals around the world; if someone didn't realise echidnas lay eggs I'm not pompous enough to label them a fool.

Only times I really feel like that is around people who genuinely were idiotic; such as when I was in a pub and I pointed out an innuendo to a girl and she somehow thought that 'innuendo' was a euphemism for being gay. She even explained her logic to the girl next to her.
"A what?"
"In-ur-end-o. You know, gay-boys."

I still have a palm-print on my forehead.

Meh, my friends are pretty intelligent people so not really, but when these two girls in front of me on the bus clearly have no knowledge of anything that's going on in the world and talk about the most idiotic, random things in the world yes I do.

Well, in my English classes, I feel like the only one who can actually speak English at all. Rapes my mind.
This has happened to me a few times, it can be quiet annoying.
Have you thought of how a new language is made? We can see how the German "die" might have evolved to the English "the", but why? Did they really think it was a better way to use the article and a better way to spell it? Did they become lazy to the point of not caring about mispronunciation and misspellings? Was it an act of rebellion? Is the point of language to strictly follow a set of grammar rules and spelling or is it to be understood by others.

Honestly, I don't know any of those answers. Maybe a historian or etymologist can, but I am neither.

I find most people have some level of reasonability. Others are children, mentally disabled or assholes.

Interesting though, I'd guess evolves through a mix of laziness and different accents.

All the time... like earlier... someone made this comment on facebook...

"good point, i celebrate christmas on july 4th, makes it easier ya knowww? i mean techinacally jesus discovered america"

Sure, he was trying to be funny with the jesus part, but seriously, what the fuck does independence day have to do with the discovery of America? And, I think living in the bible belt doesn't factor into the "surrounded by idiots" thoughts I have...

As someone working in an industry serving the general public, I can safely say yes to that question.

Outside my lines of knowledge, I can safely put myself amongst the ranks of idiot also.

I don't. I don't know that many random facts about politics or science, I enjoy using simple words instead of making everything I say sound flowery, and I don't really care too much about forcing people to see my point of view. I guess that makes me pretty stupid by most people's standards.

I live in a small scottish village where the majority of the locals are lucky to have thumbs.
It's split roughly half and half between them (idiots) and the smarter people, or incomers.

I live in a town full of farmers who know nothing about the world and only about sheep and cattle...Damned farmers so yep I always feel surrounded by idiots.
But I assume they are knowledgeable about farming though and I am sure that when I would talk with them about that I'd seem like an idiot. Everyone is an idiot at some point.

I get the feeling more often when I'm at school or around most people my age; most people I get along well with are generally older than me.
