Yes, whenever I can. I have no idea why this is. People have that joke about staring at an ass for several hours, but that always struck me as being evasive and not really giving it any thought. You wouldn't stare at your character's ass unless you were playing some kind of surreal ass-Tetris, because that would usually get you killed.

It's just.. more fun. Somehow.

I also find female characters more interesting to play; no matter the game, or options in game, I'll generally play a few of the rounds as a heroine. RPG's especially. I can't speak from an MMO-based experience, but in those cases, I'll generally have multiple characters, some of which are girls. All in all, it's a balance of both, I guess.

*looks to chest* Well since I'm of the female race I always choose to play a female character when the choice is there. Mostly because I like to play a more hyped up version of myself...Mass Effect for example is me almost down to a tee except she is a major B.

Sure. You have to look at it pragmatically if you're a guy. Let's say your average video game gives you 10 to 20 hours of game play most of which is usually spent behind the character you're controlling. Which means you're effectively staring at the ass of the character for 10 to 20 hours, and with THAT being the case, I'd rather be looking at a girl's posterior than a guy's.

But in all seriousness if you're secure with your own sexuality I don't see a problem with playing a game as a different gender. It's a game and games are fantasy personified... that and it's hilarious when you get hit on in an MMO if you happen to be using a female character. It's the new milenium and while pixels can be hot, they're still just pixels.

I think I qoute my brother on this.
"If I'm forced to watch an ass for 70 levels I might as well look at a nice ass"
Yeah I play female characters and I think it's because of WoW because of how ridiculous the proportions are on males.
All males in WoW exept trolls look all like Johnny Bravo, all upper body and no lower body.

I do it 'cause I am a girl. Sometimes I have to deal with only male models, but it's nice to have the option, even when she does look nauseating (Pokemon B&W).

Every male gamer I've watched play games also makes themselves a girl from time to time. I know the reasoning of a few (the stereotypical 'i like to watch a girl running around because they're more attractive models and i don't have any stat losses'), but not all.
I actually love the female character in B&W and hate the male. I think she's a wonderful parody of what a stereotypical American girl is (I'm a man, if that makes any difference). xD

Anyway, I play half and half.
And I always play at least once with each gender in each game that lets me choose.
Other than that it depends on the game. I prefer the look of player character women in Saints Row 2. Or I pick males in Sims because it's more relate-able for me.

I'm a woman, so it's nice to have the option to play a woman, and usually I'll take it. It's kind of a pain when the male and female characters' stats differ solely based on their gender -- I didn't know female characters in Oblivion were better mages than fighters, and vice versa for male characters, when I created my character, and my gameplay style tends toward fighting over magic, so... yeah, that was annoying... but eh.

I like to reason that if I have to stare at an ass for an unspecified ammount of hours it might aswell be a good looking one.

So yeah - I sometimes pick to play as a woman. Other reasons are differences in RPG plots, and in the case of ME1/2 I played male shepard for 5 hours then quit and rerolled female cause I cant fucking STAND the male shepard voice acting! >_<

Sure! I play as Jody in F-Zero,mainly because she has great stats on her car.

That, and she's incredibly sexy and awesome.

I usually play as a male as being a man I identify more with them, but I occaisionally play as female such as for example Dragon Quest IX as you could design the most adorable female character on it =D

Sometimes. either because some classes are restricted to female (Sorceress in D2, that witchthing in WAR)or because i got an interesting character concept in mind, like my female Saranid mounted Archer in Mount and Blade:Warbands. Especially the swift type in a game with little dialogue is when i play female. If the game has much dialogue, i prefer to be male ,for reasons of immersion.

Most of the time tho I do make a few male characters aswell but then I am a woman so I?m probably not really who you where directing the question at. I like making strong female characters.
On a oftopic note I don?t really consider myself to be the character even in most games even RPGs like fallout. I consider myself more like a puppet master I suppose. Its why I don?t have issues playing a guy (other than the fact that I suck at making decent looking guys) or do things I would never do in real life and don?t agree with. The only the only time I really do consider myself to be the character and because of that feel more comfortable playing as a woman are online/multiplayer games.

Usually my first playthrough in RPG games are with a male character, since I am one as well and,if the game is worth repeating and seeing other possible outcomes then I usually choose the female "counterpart".

So,my answer is yes.

Quite often usually. I don't really know why, but I do it. And in games like DA or ME I pursue straight relationships with them. Maybe I just find the story more endearing that way or something.

I usually just chalk it up to the old excuse of "I would rather stare at a female ass than a male one for hours" But in truth I really don't think that much about my character's ass. I do like the idea of strong female characters though, that could be it.

Almost always, unless given no other options or a particular play style is gender-locked, but I don't think that really counts since I am one.

I'm guessing this question was intended for guys.

Same here. But I play as men too, occasionally.

I usually am the one who plays as the female character when there is a group of us playing. I don't mind, in fact I think I much prefer playing as a female.
