True. I would be willing to gurantee that most of the people who say that gamers have no life do sometimes sit down and play a video game for an hour or two here and there.

Also, my friends and I enjoy to take a break and sit down and play each other in madden or nhl here and there

Gay-mer pride!
Preach it, sista. :grins:

I see nothing embarrassing about being able to kick a guy's ass at 3PS or beating five of my friends at ZOE. But I am female, so maybe it's a different perspective.

Oddly enough, I'm more likely to dislike a guy if I know he's a gamer. It's stereotyping, but I'm wont to assume he's sexist if he's a gamer. I know it's not a good or fair way to think, but, hell, spend a few days as a woman in any gaming community and it'll become apparent why.

But I know someone up in the thread was talking about how you learn hardware from games. So true. I keep forgetting that most of the public doesn't realize that 250 RAM is slower than a big slow thing, and other simple things like that.

The only time I get embarrassed as a gamer is when I reflexively blurt out something "gamerish" in public due to habit from using a microphone. Like when I see someone fall on the ice I'll laugh and say "***** just got owned". Sometimes there are people I don't want to hear that around...like the Dean of my college. But THAT is a story for another day.

Please use the search function next time.

And yes, I am embarrassed to tell people I game. If asked what I like to do, I'll say "I play the drums, I volunteer at the childrens hospital, and I'm currently interning at an investing firm." I will not mention that I'm a gamer until either the other person says they do or I know them for a long time.

Nah, I'm not exactly proud to be a gamer but I'm not really ashamed of it either. As long as I have a fellow gamer to talk to I'm fine.

Certainly not ashamed, but there are situations where it's more strategic not to mentions it. Like when you don't want the wrong gender to flock around you at parties :p

you don't know about computers, yet you play video games? that's kind of weird because you have to install stuff, sometimes download vista fixes, insert the discs in order, that kinda stuff, i learned a lot about computers and all i do on mine is post on forums and play games
VIDEO games. you know, on CONSOLES. where you DON'T have to install/download (at least a short while ago).

I'm a console gamer and I certainly don't know nothing about computers

Anyways, reading the posts made me realize something else. Maybe it's not that gaming on itself is seen as negative, but more the kind of stereotype nerd that people connect to 'gaming' in their mind

why should i be?
Indeed. I mean, I'm a geek about comic books, movies, anime, and several other things so hiding my gaming nerdness isn't going to improve my situation. And besides the fact, I'm a pretty darn cool person anyways, being a gamer just means I'm awesome to a whole nother social group.

I never bring it up unless there's a discussion about games going on. I really don't feel either way about it. It doesn't make me feel ashamed but I don't feel like announcing it to anyone.

I dont hide the fact that I'm a big gamer, but yea, I'm still aware of the fact we're all looked down upon by society, especially if you're out of school.

'no adult should be playing video games, why aren't you in a bar destroying your liver instead, or at a club taking drugs? videogames are for losers'

Yea, we're the bad guys...

Generally if I'm talking to non gamers, I'll talk if it comes up, else I'll leave gaming out of it, more as simple politeness, I hope they won't insist on talking about sports or soap operas to me and expect me to be fascinated too.

I don't care if people don't like me being a gamer or not. They can do as they like, I don't care, so why should they care about what I do? Gaming is becoming a lot more popular now anyway.

Everyone knows I'm a gamer. I'm the go to guy in the school for advice on games and stuff. It's pretty cool. I've also got an Xbox keychain.

I'm proud and prove it. If someone tells me games are bad I tell them all the things gamers are better at and then they go about standered news bull and again I prove them wrong by saying what a gamer normally does compaired to some nutters who don't play games do...

I'm proud enough to talk about games whoever they are. Hell I said I was a gamer during my last interview.

Hell I've heard SOMETIMES certain aspects of being a gamer can appeal to SOME employers, such as being in a guild can show an ability to deal with people, organisational skills, and leadership qualities.
