No music. One of my friends likes to play with music on and he gets us killed constantly because he can't hear what's going on in the game. It drives me nuts.

I really like to but whenever I put music on I tend to get distracted and play far worse than I normally would without it.

No, I usually listen and contribute to the conversations with my mic so music would just ruin that... some of those conversations are spazadiddilysuperduperifficawesomeoafied!

One of my friends does this and I'll be shouting at him over the mic, so I have to call him on my phone and tell him he is an idiot and that Optimus Prime will get retribution for his sins.

I made this exact thread before...

No I don't, I'm all about music I hardly ever play games anymore but when I play games I must play thme with 100% focus, so no music for me while playing.

If you feel the need to put on other music while playing a game, the devs have failed at an essential job: making the music fit the mood and be appealing to the ear.

Nevertheless, I have played some games that I liked that I played music over, such as Hexen.

But by and large, I just listen to in-game. It's there for a reason.

Most of the time, in-game audio. Some games I do play some of my own music. Nothing screams wasteland wanderer like Metallica's Wherever I Roam.

I personally love both my music and my games but yet I can't quite have them both going at the same time. Just thinking as to what the majority do, most of my friends play with music on and I just had a little discussion with them. Let me know.
First time playing, no music. I like cutscenes.
Second playthrough, helllz yeah.
Playing a extremely hard game like Ninja Gaiden or Lair (it was really difficult before the analogue stick patch) to something calming like Bjork or the Cocteau Twins was awesome.
Or playing Littlebigplanet to Ministry (The mind is a terrible thing to taste or Twitch) is great frantic fun.

Usually no, because you can't hear what's happening around you and in games like COD4 it's a nuisance.

Non-game music decreases immersion.

With, & I have several game soundtracks too. I listen to them whenever I need to relax & concentrate on something...work, drawing, cooking, homework, spring cleaning. My mother thinks the music is anything but relaxing & even a little eerire, weird, or disturbing, but if you can relax & concentrate though the game with that music, you can do it with anything.

NEVER.

It completely sucks me out of the immersion of the game to have non-game music playing in the background.

yeah Motorhead is cool.

OT: depends on the game, but multiplayer, music is required,
Nonpoint is the best gaming music ever made.
