Yes, and anyone who says no is lying.

As to what extent though - well, if every game that will ever be made looks like Assassin's Creed 2, I wouldn't be disappointed. I enjoyed Dragon Age - and let's face it that game looked terrible!
I agree. AC2 looked fantastic. After I saw this, I haven't been able to go back to Suikoden II.

Graphics are definitely important to me. Well, considering how I actually thought Oblivion looked bad. Really, if I care about the game looking real, and therefore getting a plus in the immersion factor, I am shallow?

I'm a RPG gamer, I could care less about graphics in shooters, but in RPG's you play a role. The world might as well look real.

i am fortunate enough to own all three current gen consoles (although I am not sure I would count the Wii as "current gen".

I hardly ever play the Wii anymore, but you have to appreciate the exclusives it has. It will never hold a candle to the Xbox 360 and PS3's ability to handle an FPS. It just doesn't have the horsepower.

If you are used to decent graphics on a next gen console and then a game like "Deadly Premonition" comes along which has prior gen graphics, you really notice it. Or even Dragon Age: Origins on the 360 - I mean the graphics look substandard for an original Xbox game.

I guess you don't have to have superb graphics to enjoy a game, but they sure help in the immersion department.

The graphics and physics engine in Red Dead Redemption really make the game. This past weekend, I just stopped to watch the in-game sunset. I also marveled at how the telegraph lines would wave in the breeze exactly as you would expect them to. Also, on a surround sound, the booming thunderstorms are awesome and sent my little schnauzer under the bed. Yup, my little dog HATES Red Dead Redemption - at least with Surround Sound

Ugly or old fashioned graphics are completely fine to me. Whats not fine is ugly or old fashioned interfaces that make the game horrendous to play - this is the thing that hits me when I play old games much more than the graphics.

This isn't a simple yes or no question. E.g. I've been playing the Pokémon franchise for years now and I can honestly say I have never cared about the graphics because the gameplay offers everything I want. Sure good or better graphics would be nice, but they're not essential.

However, on a game like Call of Duty, or in fact, any game on the Xbox 360/PS3, I expect the finest graphics available. After all, when you design a console to be hooked up to at least a 26" TV, you should design games that look fantastic. And there's no excuse for sloppy graphics in this day and age when that's all a game has going for it. If a game's gonna suck, it should at least look extremely good while it sucks.

depends. i dont mind if they have a good art style that lasts (warcraft etc..) as long as they look ok, however, i cant stand some shooters from even five years ago because they have a horrible uncanny valley look.

Good graphics get people to play games... but they don't get people to keep playing after they've started.

Of course graphics do matter. It doesn't have to be a crysis but if for example, the next Call of duty would have really outdated graphics, that would be a negative point. In games like half-life or metal gear soild, I really don't give a crap about graphics. These games are just to good to complain about old graphics.

I voted no, but this question is worded stupidly. Of course graphics matter, but are they the priority? Will a game with bad graphics automatically suck? Will I only play games that look more like real life then the last game I played? No, No, and No.

I think that's why CapCom sticks with proven gameplay formulas and mechanics, like in Street Fighter IV. That's a great deal of the franchise's characacter. Just like in the Call of Duty franchise, a great part of it's character is tolerating pre-pubescent, whiny, boys. Or is that Halo? Awesome graphics, tho!

Graphics do matter, but I personally place gameplay above it. Also story, if the game is supposed to be story driven. But good graphics don't have to be super-intensive bloom monstrosities; simple, solid graphics are great too (*looks at AI War*).

So yeah, graphics matter, but they aren't a primary concern.

Not in a giant way. I never, ever buy a game because it has good graphics. If it does have good graphics, that's a nice bonus, but otherwise I don't care.

What no third option?

Umm I have to go No, but good graphics can make a game better but there not essential.

I don't really care about graphics, I mean space invaders is an awesome game. I do care whenever graphics are glitchy, choppy, and/or confusing.
