Depends on my mood. I've a world where I've used INVedit to create things on a larger scale and for just when I can't be bothered mining resources, and I've a world where everything I make has been mined and made out of materials I'v found in the game world.

Though I like both types of play building something I've found/mined/crafted all the resources for is much more rewarding, it's harder to find the time to mine to make the kind of things I make in my INVedit world.

I only did it once when my save file was accidentally deleted, and I didn't want to start over completely.

My behavior with inventory modding depends on the situation at hand.
If I'm after a superproject I'm more likely to do it, with the odds approaching 1 the more and rarer materials I need.
Most of the time I just roll with what I can get naturally though.

And to prevent getting in trouble for low-content post, I'll say this. When a world (dubbed Cliffside due to the location of my main house), my favorite world, has a multi-tiered mine encompassing the entire size of the map underground, and I have not found a single diamond, I stop caring about "achievement." I also have another world where I just want to mess around with updates or mods without heeding the requirements for them.

i have a server for simply building stuff that i use the give command in. only so i can figure out exactly how to build whatever it is i want to build, and exactly how many blocks it will take me, so i dont end up wasting time/ materials in my single player.

in my single player, everything is legit, no inv hacking/ editing for me.

Honestly, I never have done it because of the simple fact that, for me at least, the fun is in getting the minerals. I've never really figured out anything interesting to make, and the things I do make usually seem better because I actually worked to make them. That said, I do understand why people do it. The spawn rates of some things is just stupid.
pretty much the same (proudly found, dug, smelted, crafted, and placed everything i needed to make an entirely brick block house. with a fireplace, and mostly mossy cobblestone basement.)

found all the iron/ gold for my rollercoaster too :)

god i love minecraft, i might go play it now.

No. Granted I've had no luck at all in finding Diamonds in my new world to mine all this Obsidian I have, and I was really tempted to hack it, but in the end I'm just cheating myself out of the satisfaction.

If I were to do a major building project, however, then I would probably hack the game, but not in a "proper" game.

I would like to but I just haven't been arsed to go look for a mod yet. I like playing legit. Makes it seem worth the effort.

I have two worlds, one that I hack and one I don't. Though I do prefer playing without the hacks because making that tower/city/whatever feels that much more rewarding, and other times I feel impatient.

Never, I usually play Permadeath Minecraft in single player, it isn't too hard if you establish some farms early on. In multiplayer, while it is as boring as hell digging a quarry, it is very satisfying to look at the loot you got from it, and the six large chests full of dirt gravel and cobblestone. I never play on peaceful though, because I don't see the point.

I've never done it and for the foreseeable future I probably won't. I'm having enough fun trying to create a self sufficient place for myself as is and I haven't even gotten to do certain things in my world (The seed is called "New World Order" without the quote marks if anyone's interested)! I still want to explore the Nether, find diamonds, find more gold, find a LOT more iron, finally finish my beast of a castle (It's taking inspiration from the castle from Dragon's Lair at this point), start a tree plantation, expand my rooftop farm (which I may relocate and turn the rooftop into a garden), build a rail network...

Jesus, I'm going to be busy for a while...

I've played on two different friends servers recently. One friend setup his server so that only friendly animals spawned and he'd spawn materials for all the players. It was pretty fun having limitless building capabilities. I have to admit though, I found my other friend's server just a tad more satisfying knowing that yea, my castle might not have been as grand but that I worked hard to gather all those materials for it. I loved the thrill of night too, forcing me to be cautious and barricade the courtyards and build a secret system of interconnecting tunnels for safety.

How would you actually get this?

The way Minecraft is now is pretty fun, but I'd rather be able to build things without the limitation of gathering resources.

I do it all the time, takes too fucking long to get a lot of the materials I tend to use.

Well put.

The game is played however one wants to play it after all.

That said, no I don't gift myself free resources.

I will however, use mcedit for landscaping purposes from time to time. Say when I need to remove an unsightly mountain.

Or more recently having 'fixed' a world hole.

i didnt use to but i do now. i mined so much and never found anything better than iron and a diamond pickaxe does last that long for the rarity of the metal.

For me, the satisfaction in the game comes from how much effort is required to mine the materials to make awesome structures. Using inventory edit software would just take the fun away for me, so I always do my own digging.

i do not...

i like my structures to be part of the environs

like glass tops to mountains...and elaborate caves

so most of the time i dig a lot anyway

and its fast enough to make stone and glass and ladders and what not...

its part of the game...and what makes it worth playing

I may stoop to it if I want to finish my Silent Hill 2 reproduction. But I have been playing legitimately for four months now.
